Continue ReadingLast Friday we published our updated Class of 2024 prospect rankings and by now you are familiar with the names who have remained at the top list for a year or more. Names like five-star recruits Robert Wright III Robert Wright III 6'0" | PG Montverde Academy (FL) | 2024 State #35 Nation FL , Ahmad Nowell Ahmad Nowell 6'0" | PG Imhotep Charter | 2024 State #36 Nation PA and Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ .
So we analyzed the Pennsylvania Class of 2024 rankings and today we will reveal five southeastern PA prospects who used the spring grassroots circuit to break into our ranking for the first time.
Below is a review of five southeastern Pennsylvania 2024 prospects who made their rankings debut in our latest update.
35… Toby Ojukwu Toby Ojukwu 6'2" | PG Norcross | 2024 State GA – 6’2” / Roman Catholic / Philly Pride National / Point Guard: Ojukwu is a versatile guard prospect who this spring drained threes, distributed the rock and played smothering on-ball defense. Ojukwu’s well rounded skill set allows him to play as a lethal two-guard or a trustworthy primary ball handler. In April at the Hoop Group Spring Showdown Ojukwu and Philly Pride 2024s “played up” in the 17U Gold division and walked away as co-champions. Next, Ojukwu crushed it at UAA Session I (IN), displaying poise beyond his years and draining shots from all over the floor. Then at the at the Big Shots-Philly Pride event Ojukwu turned heads by averaging 12 ppg. We expect that Ojukwu’s recruiting stock and ranking will continue to rise this summer.
155… Naeem Colston Naeem Colston 6'5" | PF Samuel Fels | 2024 State PA – 6’5” / Abraham Lincoln / Mt. Pleasant Bulldogs / Wing: Colston is an athletic wing with speed, hops, and a lengthy wingspan. That trifecta allows him to excel in transition where he typically finishes with a slam. Those assets also make Colston a beast on the glass. Once Colston has secured a defensive rebound, his surprising handles allow him to go coast to coast for bucket. Additionally, Colston owns a respectable mid-range game and can score in close with either hand. Colston’s sensational play this spring helped push Mt. Pleasant into our 16U (2024) Top 10 rankings.
217… Ma’Kye Taylor Ma’Kye Taylor 6'7" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA – 6’7” / Imhotep Charter / Team Final EYBL / Wing: A reserve for Imhotep’s state championship team this past winter, Taylor’s prominent level of play on the spring circuit added his name to our updated rankings. Taylor does the bulk of his scoring damage in transition and on second chance opportunities. However, if a defender loses track of Taylor on the perimeter, he will splash home a three ball. On defense Taylor provides rim protection and rebounding. Throughout April and May, Taylor improved every week. At the season ending Nike EYBL Session 3 event (KY), he was a starter for Team Final who posted 11 points and 7 rebounds per game. Taylor was a key part of a Team Final squad that collected trophies at multiple events this spring.
235…William Littles Jr. – 6’1” / Shipley School / PSB Philly-Bosler / Combo Guard: Littles is an elite bucket getter who routinely posted double digit scoring games throughout the spring circuit. He can use the bounce to navigate his way into the paint for a lay-in. Little also does an excellent job of using ball / shot fakes and then a dribble or two to get to his mid-range spots. Littles is a perimeter threat as well because his smooth jump shot has range out to the arc. His outstanding play at the ZG Mid-Atlantic Championship pushed PSB Philly-Bosler to a 4-0 record and the 16U title at that event.
271… Carter Horst Carter Horst 6'0" | CG Warwick | 2024 State PA – 6’0″ / Warwick / York Ballers / Combo Guard: Horst is a tremendous half-court player who uses his high basketball IQ and quickness to slash to the hoop for catch and lay-ins. His continuous off-ball movement and use of back door cuts are skills rarely seen these days. Horst can also knock home spot up threes and threes coming off screen action. Horst is sneaky athletic, so he can get out on the fast break and score the rock. At the other end Horst is a plus defender. Horst popped onto our radar in April after several outstanding performances at the Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest (PA). He continued to play at a high-level all spring. Then in late May, Horst led his York Ballers team to the ZG Coaches vs Cancer tournament 16U championship.
