In this series, we’ll take a look at some of the top 2023 prospect at each position that don’t play on a shoe circuit team. Here’s a look at part 2 of the guards.
Jordan Horne Jordan Horne 6'1" | PG Miller School | 2023 VA | 6’2” PG | Team Loaded 434
Horne transferred to Miller School from Walsingham this year and the way that he took off this season makes him very intriguing as a late bloomer prospect at the PG position. He is athletic and very strong as he can get downhill and is a very good finisher in traffic, he can push the tempo and make plays for others and he really improved in his consistency from deep. He also thrives on the defensive end where he can provide full court pressure and he’s a good rebounding guard as well.
Robby Matos Robby Matos 5'9" | PG Blue Ridge | 2023 VA | 5’9” PG | Team Loaded 434
When it comes to athletic guards you may not find one in VA that’s quite as dynamic and quick as Matos, who is also a star on the Blue Ridge football team. Despite being just 5’9” Matos is a menace on the court as he can pressure the basketball 94 feet, he has a lightning quick first step and changes directions well and when he gets in the lane he can gather and rise up to finish at the rim with the biggest of defenders. He’s not only fun to watch but he’s one of the better guards you’ll find in an uptempo system and he could be a division one player in either sport.
Justin Bass Justin Bass 5'11" | PG Kecoughtan | 2023 State VA | 5’11” PG | Team Push
Bass has been on an absolute tear this summer after a good year at Kecoughtan, and now that DJ Campbell is gone he’s showing he could be the guy to step in and run the show for them next year. He’s had multiple performances against high level competition where he showed out, showing that not only can he run the show but he can score it with the best of them and is capable of going for 20 or more any day of the week. He’s become a very good shooter from deep both off the catch and off the bounce, he can get in the lane and finish among bigger players and he can push the tempo and make plays in transition.
Cameron Cole Cameron Cole 6'4" | PG Highland | 2023 State VA | 6’0” PG | VA Playmakers
Cole is as skilled as they come when it comes to point guards in the 2023 class, as there isn’t much he can’t do on the offensive end of the floor. He has the ball on a string and he can break defenders down in isolation situations, he can make plays for others when he gets in the lane and he has an excellent scoring package in the midrange and from deep. He can play in multiple systems and is the type of player who just gives off winner type of vibes.
Corey Caulker Corey Caulker 6'1" | PG Bishop O'Connell | 2023 State VA | 5’10” | Team Thrill VA
Caulker is a skilled and true floor general who can make his team better in a number of different ways, and is a big reason for the turn around at Fairfax Christian. He plays with good pace and controls the tempo, he can get in the lane and make plays for others and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently from multiple levels. He is a very good teammate and he doesn’t make many mistakes on either end of the floor.
