Nickson Bess 2022 6’6 Marian NTI (RL9 Honor Armor Lions)
Nickson is a high level forward who I was shocked to see is still unsigned. The forward/ wing prospect has showed an ability to handle the ball at a high level in the open court, but is a polished post player on the block. His consistency down low paired with his high level footwork allows him to be a menace in the paint. He is strong with the ball down low, allowing him to finish through contact and does not allow smaller players a chance at the ball. I loved watching him dominate the interior, then surprised his opponent by knocking down shots off the catch. He has a good form on his jumper off the catch, and knows when to smartly pop out of the pick and roll for an open look on the perimeter. I loved watching him screen his opponent to give his lead guard time and space to make a decision and attack the defense. He creates space by setting hard screens, and quickly rolls hard to the rim for open opportunities.
Sebastian Amaro 2022 6’0 New Waverly High School (RL9 Honor Armor Lions)
Sebastian is a skilled guard who specializes in his ability to defend the perimeter, but also run the fast break and space the floor with his shot making ability. I loved seeing his motor and how much energy he played the game with, giving his team a spark through his intensity on both ends of the court. His ability to quickly turn his work on the defensive end into points on offense is a skill that college coaches covet. He loves getting to the rim in both the full court and the half court, where he finished well even against taller defender. I loved his ability to play off the basketball as well, showing an ability to attack the defense from the corners and wing with his quick trigger and fluid shot motion. He is a good shooter when given time to set his feet.
Ronald Davis 2022 6’5 North Dallas High School (Crab 5 Larry)
Ronald is an athletic wing who can put the ball on the floor to attack the rim, but also showed comfort in getting to his shot in the mid-range and beyond the arc off the bounce. He consistently threatened the defense from all three levels of the court, creating space with his handle or bullying his opponent in the paint with his frame and strength. I loved watching him bounce off of contact on his way to the rim, constantly creating separation with his ability to put his head down and beat an opponent to the spot. He has all of the athletic tools that college coaches are constantly in search of, do not be surprised if he is snatched up soon!
Kaleb Taylor 2022 6’10 Universal Academy, Dallas (Team Grrr)
Kaleb is a special forward who is already a natural finisher down low, with great strength and a solid array of post moves. He is a ferocious center with a real ability to finish in traffic. You can tell Taylor has spent his fair share of time in the weight room with how easily he finishes in the paint. He fought through contact, even in AAU rules where fouls are rarely called, Kaleb showed an ability to power through anything. I would like to see him work on his ability to move his feet, both in the open court with a live dribble and laterally. He showed an ability to rim run, and finish when not asked to take too many dribbles. With Taylor’s size and strength, if you are a college coach still in need of a true center, look no further!
Rodney Geter 2022 6’6 Dallas Madison High School (M.L. Elite)
Rodney is an athletic wing who dominates his opponents in the paint, especially on the glass. His relentlessness on the glass gave his team a plethora of extra opportunities and easy second chance points through his aggressiveness. He fights hard in the paint and in the post, and always boxes out the nearest man to him. He was consistently fighting for positioning in the low post, and working to move his opponent out of his way to clear driving lanes for his teammates. He is also good in the dunkers spot, he always manages to seal off his opponent at the right time to be an open receiver of a pass for his guards as they attack the rim. Geter displayed his intense defense on the perimeter and in the paint, coming up with blocks and locking down quicker guards on the perimeter. His length harasses ball handlers and forces them to pick up their dribble 30 feet from the rim and make a bad decision. He is a good screener who rolls hard to the rim and destroys smaller opponents who switch onto him. He is a consistent rim runner and when he gets a full head of steam not many opponents want to get in his way.
CJ Evans 2022 6’1 Harker Heights High School (Drive Nation CTX 17U Smoot)
CJ is an acrobatic finisher who thrives at getting into the teeth of the defense with his handle in the open court and finishing amongst taller defenders. He lived on the fast break with his high energy and good foot speed with a live dribble. His ability to finish and evade contact allowed him to finish through anyone else who slid over to draw a charge or block his shot. He made great decision on the fast break to slip through driving lanes and make the right pass ahead to set up a teammate. He was an intense player who showed a willingness to rebound and then run the fast break. I would like to see him work on his decision making in the half court and out of the pick and roll.
Teunshe Cole 2022 6’7 WT White High School (Team Grrr)
Teunshe is an intriguing forward prospects with how well he handles the ball to get into the paint. I was very impressed by his natural ability to dribble out of trouble, even when the defense sends two at him at the high post. He took intelligent power dribbles to get himself out of trouble and showed an ability to play alongside another big and play the three or the four if necessary. He willingly distributed the basketball to open teammates when necessary. Cole’s ability to get into the teeth of the paint and also finish at the rim was very special, but where he really made adifference was his ability to rebound the ball at a high level. I would like to see him focus on his ability to confidently shoot off the dribble but also catch and shoot from the top of the key and as a trailer option. His long arms allow him to have a high release point, but I would like to see more consistency.
