The event yielded some solid action, including one of the most competitive summer games I’ve seen in a while, El Camino’s thrilling win over Carlsbad to cap Saturday Action.
I’ll have a couple of reports from the event, starting with the top prospects from the games I saw (I split time between The Warm Up and the second session of SDSU Team Camp).
Event Surprises
Luke Sanford, 5-8 2023 G, El Camino
Sanford is an undersized combo guard who is an excellent on-ball defender and a blur in the open court. He’s dramatically improved his overall skill set, but his biggest attribute is his motor. He never takes plays off.
Justin Lubisich, 6-2 2023 G, Poway
Lubisich is looking like the anchor of the new-look Poway team. The 6-2 “basketball player” is a solid slasher and scorer in traffic and showed improvement shooting the ball off the dribble and off the catch.
LeCiya Garrett, 6-3 2023 G, Vista
Garrett is a very solidly built combo guard who passes the eye test and has the potential to be a very good on-ball defender. He gives great effort and can score off the bounce in the half court. He shoots it decently off the catch. He needs to improve his handle and decision making moving forward.
Cameron Clarke, 6-2 2025 G, Eastlake
Clarke was one of the event’s surprises among the rising sophomore class. A solid sized point guard, Clarke has nice feel out of the pick and roll and has some craftiness off the bounce.
Jordan Garner, 5-7 2025 G, La Costa Canyon
A very undersized point guard with a nose for the paint, Garner did a good job getting into the paint and scoring and creating off the bounce.
