G Mekhi Cooper Mekhi Cooper 6'0" | PG Bolingbrook | 2023 State IL , Bolingbrook, 2023
There’s nowhere better to start than Bolingbrook’s Mekhi Cooper Mekhi Cooper 6'0" | PG Bolingbrook | 2023 State IL . The 2023 point guard has done it all on offense the past couple weeks. I saw him score from all three levels against North Lawndale today. He’s also an excellent floor general with terrific distribution and ball handling skills.
F Donaven Younger Donaven Younger 6'8" | C Bolingbrook | 2023 State IL , Bolingbrook, 2023
I’ve really loved how Younger’s played lately. Against North Lwndale, he showed some excellent athleticism, and the ability to score from several areas on the floor. He opened the game with a dunk and had several more throughout the game. He was also terrific on the glass and took advantage of his size.
G Mason Ross, Marist 2023
This is a name who especially stepped up. He showed some terrific off-ball movement and distribution early against Waubonsie valley, and knocked down several shots from outside. He heated up in the 2nd half and got several more baskets, while also making plays on defense. He’s got a physical build and can push the ball towards the bucket.
G Adonis Vassilakis, Marist, 2026
Marist has a couple solid freshman on their roster. One who impressed me was Vassilakis. The 6’0″ guard is a three-level scorer who got some clutch buckets late in the game. His most important came in the final seconds off a three in the corner to regain the lead. He’s super quick with the ball and didn’t make many mistakes. Finished in double figures.
C James Brown James Brown 6'9" | C Link Academy (from Chicago) | 2024 #66 Nation MO , St. Rita, 2024
In the game I watched, the most impactful player from the Rita big 3 was Brown. He battled for boards on both ends and got several second chance opportunities. He also showed some excellent footwork and control in the post, as that’s where he got most of his scoring from. On defense, he forced Benet to take tough shots up close.
F Jaylan McElroy Jaylan McElroy 6'7" | PF DePaul Prep | 2024 State #262 Nation IL , DePaul Prep 2024
Now here’s an underrated kid I really like. I saw a little bit of McElroy in DePaul’s first game today. He made several key plays down low to lead an impressive overtime comeback. His second game against DGN is where I saw him shine. Plays very physical down low and does an excellent job spacing out to get open. Can make quick moves under the basket for easier basket down low. He was a big part of their blowout win against DGN.
