Continue ReadingEarlier this week the initial Class of 2025 were released. Five players in the Class to break into them play their grassroots ball with Team Griffin’s 15U program. This has given them a busy spring with regional tournaments and national trips to Orlando and Indianapolis. Here’s a breakdown of why these five are considered top prospects.
Kaidon Rayfield Kaidon Rayfield 6'8" | PF Putnam City West | 2025 State #122 Nation OK , 6’7 Wing/Forward, Putnam City West
There’s long term potential for Rayfield on the perimeter, that’s the type of fluid athlete he could become. Right now, he’s been excelling in his role as a long armed impact player around the rim for Griffin. He’s starting to dunk everything on the offensive end while also having a similar impact as a rim protector with block and altered shots. When giving the opportunity, he has excelled as a face up style slasher as well. Will need to continue to fine tune his shooting to be a stretch four/traditional wing.
Landry Ballard Landry Ballard 6'1" | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK Jr, 6’1 Combo Guard, Douglass
Already one of the more productive players when it comes to high school in his grade, Ballard Jr averaged 18 a game at Douglass. With Team Griffin this spring, a bad ankle sprain derailed much of his April. Before that ankle sprain, he was a team leader making an impact on both ends of the court in a tournament in Arkansas. Ballard Jr is a bit of a jack of all trades guard right now, which has benefits. But it would benefit him longterm to standout to college coaches if he had one dominant trait. Rather it’s becoming an elite shooter, a playmaker for others or an absolute “dog” on defense, those are all potential upgrades to his game that could allow Ballard to standout among a crowd of similar combo guards.
David Howell David Howell 6'4" | PG Broken Arrow | 2025 State #329 Nation OK , 6’5 Point Guard, Broken Arrow
The point guard listing is admittedly a bit of a stretch right now, but the feel and skill Howell has as a wing should eventually translate to that of being a lead guard. He has had flashes of that this spring as a player capable of using his handles and size to get into the lane. Once driving to the rim he has great vision, which creates high percentage scoring opportunities. He’ll need to continue to refine his handle and work on asserting himself more, but the Broken Arrow Tiger has one of the highest upsides in the class.
Roman Miller Roman Miller 6'4" | CG Mustang | 2025 State OK , 6’2 Combo Guard, Mustang
One of the better shooters in the class. Miller has a text book release and is a threat as a spot up or off the dribble. He’s still clearly physically growing as he has awkward moments, but shows flashes of fluidity in moves of the dribble. Miller is the type of prospect that when the light fully comes on for him in regards to confidence, he could turn into one of the most efficient scorers in the class.
Carter Roman Nose Carter Roman Nose 6'3" | CG El Reno | 2025 State OK , 6’1 Combo Guard, El Reno
A subtle player, who most often pops up at the right time to perform the “dirty work” on both ends of the court. He does a good job of balancing gambling to create havoc on defense and also playing good team defense. Offensively he has had some issues scoring against some of the top tier competition. But given the exposure to elite foes, he’s a candidate for a big sophomore jump with El Reno this winter.
