This showcase is always one of the biggest events in the state and this year was no different, with plenty of college coaches in attendance for every second of action.
Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6'5" | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX 2023 6’3 Byron Nelson High School
Finley is a high level combo guard who is a threat to score across all four levels of the court at any given moment. In his first game, he produced 37 out of his teams 57, smoothly scoring in the midrange and beyond the arc. I loved his willingness to take what the defense gave him from any spot on the court. He seemed comfortable fading both ways, and confidently elevates to his spots beyond the arc and in the mid-range. I was also impressed with how well he operated well out of the pick and roll, making timely decisions with the basketball, and showed his fearlessness scoring the ball even with the defense’s complete attention. It is not hard to figure out why Bizjack is so highly rated, he calmly can control your offense and produce buckets when you need them most. This is a name you cannot soon forget.
Jason Ward Jason Ward 5'11" | PG Round Rock | 2024 TX 2024 6’1 Round Rock High School
Jason is a true point guard who loves dissecting the defense on the fast break and controlling the tempo within the half court. I was very impressed with how well he led the team from the point guard spot, and how his unselfishness seemed to bleed through his teammates. He always made the extra pass to set up a teammate, and made plenty of picture perfect 3/4 court passes to his teammates streaking up the sideline. I loved watching him manipulate the defense through the pick and roll, he made the right reads to find his big man down low or his shooters on the perimeter after drawing a third defender. I would like to see him work on his ability to shoot off the bounce from all three levels with more consistency.
Gur Dhillon Gur Dhillon 6'6" | PF Addison Trinity Christian | 2024 State TX 2024 6’6 Trinity Christian Academy (Addison)
Gur is a special big who knows how to use his size to dominate in the midrange and the paint. I was very impressed with his ability to put the ball on the floor and get out of the triple threat. He was explosive for his lanky and skinny body. He dominated all the games with his bunny hooks and up and unders. He is a very polished prospect for his age, with good footwork to manipulate his defender at will. He is a strong finisher in the paint and utilizes his length to outreach opponents. Dhillon is also great rebounder on both ends of the floor, he routinely boxes out and fights hard for all boards. Over the summer he has really improved his play-making ability, especially with his back to the basket. He is making quick moves in the post, attacking mismatches and picking apart the defense when they send help.
Bobby McWard Bobby McWard 6'3" | CG McKinney Christian Academy | 2023 State TX 2023 6’2 McKinney Christian Academy
Bobby is a high level shooter with an ability to punish you off the dribble, or with his feet set. He is great at quickly setting his feet and rising up, even with a defender in his grill. His ability to handle the ball and get his shot off was very impressive. He calmly takes what the defense gives him every time down the court, and has the ability to score from all three levels of the floor. He even displayed an ability to back down his opponent and score in the midrange with a tight turn around. However, he does not just hunt for his own shot, he can create open looks for his teammates as well. When I saw him play, he whipped some high level cross court passes to his teammates. What I was the most impressed with was how accurate he was whipping a one handed passes after coming off of his live dribble. His ability to accurately fire passes into the corners makes him a dangerous weapon in the half court. He is a high level ball handler who specializes in the Chris Paul game of keeping his defender on his back hip, he slowed up and forced his opponent to take bigger steps to cut him off, or simply give up on the play in the half court after he had them beat. He is an aware playmaker, who is also a dynamic scorer. McWard has all of the tools in his bag to become a real weapon at the point guard or the combo guard position at the next level with his ability to see the floor and create his own shot.
Jaden Miller 2023 6’0 Dawson High School
Jaden is an intelligent combo guard who thrives on getting his teammates involved and getting to his spots beyond the arc. He displayed some very consistent shooting off the dribble, and even showed off some impressive off ball movement to give himself some space. I was very impressed with his ability to dictate the pace of the game, he has great end to end speed which allows Dawson to play fast and get easy looks at the rim on the break. His ability to consistently make the right reads in the full court sets his teammates up for great opportunities. I would like to see him work on getting to his shot in the mid-range.
