Last year, to everyone’s surprise, Stone Memorial advanced to the State Tournament, largely on the back of Class of 2025 super-phenom Cade Capps Cade Capps 6'5" | SG Stone Memorial | 2025 State #210 Nation TN . He earned All-State Tournament and the young man is even better than he was those few short months ago. Knox Webb brings back Lukas Walls Lukas Walls 6'4" | SG Knoxville Webb | 2023 State TN , one of the best in Tennessee, alongside several dual-sport stars like Markeis Barrett Markeis Barrett 6'2" | SG Knoxville Webb (football) | 2024 TN , Shavar Young, etc.

New Names
Shavar Young looks a little bigger. He is so, so young, but earned minutes last season as an eighth grader on a deep, deep team. Now, Shavar is more responsible for impacting games. His speed is exceptional. The worry long-term is that Shavar will elect to play football, like Brandon Winton did and probably Markeis Barrett Markeis Barrett 6'2" | SG Knoxville Webb (football) | 2024 TN will. The sport of basketball too often loses that football versus basketball fight for elite talent in eastern Tennessee especially. Shavar can really defend both on and off the basketball. Quick feet indeed.
Shavar plays kind of like a young John Wall. He is just faster than everyone else, even at a good guard height. Not just a tiny blur, he is a legit guard-sized player.
If you are looking for a player to make a big leap this year for Knoxville Webb, then pick Drake Ingram Drake Ingram 6'2" | PG Knoxville Webb | 2024 State TN . The skilled guard has had a wonderful spring with Pro One -TN AAU and was buried behind some wonderful senior players on the Webb bench last winter.
Saturday, Ingram jumped into a passing lane during a lazy post feed, intercepted it, and then burst up the floor. Still left with quite a lot to do, Ingram finished an acrobatic, challenged, left-handed layup.
Best of the Best
Cade Capps Cade Capps 6'5" | SG Stone Memorial | 2025 State #210 Nation TN and Lukas Walls Lukas Walls 6'4" | SG Knoxville Webb | 2023 State TN went head-to-head often Saturday afternoon.
How good are these two? Lukas is likely to finish his career in Tennessee as a Top 5ish player. Mr. Basketball is absolutely possible for him. He was All-State last winter. Cade is one of the best scorers in Tennessee, before he enters his sophomore season. Tennessee Tech is very interested in him as a young prospect.
Lukas tried to post up Cade a little, which was wise. Though Cade is probably an inch or two taller, Walls is simply more physically matured and stronger with the lower body. Cade put on good weight in the last couple of months. He is much quicker on the perimeter and now able to legitimately check an elite high school guard, though he still needs to focus on improving that critical lateral mobility long-term.
Capps and Brady Lane ran a lovely screen’n’flair play, which resulted in killer three-pointer. Capps’ catch-and-shoot accuracy is up there with the best in Tennessee. The coaching staff clearly knows this and initiating plays that end in him shooting with a down screen is wonderful coaching. ‘Put your best guys in the best positions to succeed.’
Brady Lane is appropriately-named. His area of greatest impact will be rebounding in the lane. Brady jumped center to tip it off and the team will rely upon him to provide court balance to an otherwise guard-heavy operation.
Lukas Walls Lukas Walls 6'4" | SG Knoxville Webb | 2023 State TN matured from a high-IQ freshman with only average handles to a dual-threat combo guard with consistent range and unwavering intensity. It feels like he is a fifth year senior.
If there is one thing to bank on next year with Lukas, then it is free throw attempting. Lukas, like great players before him (Brian Edwards Jr., Chandler Jackson) will constantly earn his way to the free throw line. He did it Saturday and will make it a habit in 2022-2023 too.
