The Spring Grassroots season is quickly coming to an end. We only have one remaining stop on our PrepHoops Spring Circuit, and many other AAU events are taking a pause for June to give way to High School programs. For the last two months, I’ve had the opportunity to evaluate several local prospects, with an eye toward the rankings. The improvement between a player’s freshman and sophomore season is crucial to their development and can put them squarely on the radar. In this article, we take a look at some Sleepers from the Spring Grassroots Season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1281369" first="Xavion" last="Staton"] 6’10 C Sierra Vista (#50) - Keep an eye on Staton. He’s a developing prospect with good size and length. He’s extremely raw, however, his time on Varsity should prove to be valuable experience. With his size, his ability to rim protect is obvious, if he improves his upper body strength during the summer, then expect him to open a few eyes.

[player_tooltip player_id="1336299" first="Geremiah" last="Rone"] 6’1 SF Cimarron|Prominent Elite (#47) - Rone is a player with a lot of upside. His best skill is his motor and he uses it to get out and make plays in transition. He also has good versatility, especially on the defensive side of the ball, which allows him to switch out onto 1’s and 2’s. He’s been running with PE during the grassroots season and has had an impact for them in some Prephoops Circuit events.

[player_tooltip player_id="1335934" first="Lantz" last="Stephenson"] 6’5 SF Coronado|Prominent Elite (#30) - Stephenson blends the line between, sleeper and stockriser. He saw only JV action last season, so it’s understandable that he’d be considered a sleeper, however, he’s played well enough this Spring to be considered a player on the rise. Stephenson has a good frame and is a nightmare when attacking downhill. With his combination of size and skill, he’s going to be a player to keep a close eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id="1253133" first="Mark" last="Beeten"] 5’9 PG Las Vegas Knicks|Sierra Vista (#33) - I like smart guys and Beeten is that. I also like competitors and he checks those boxes as well. The PG may be slept on because of his size, however, his skill is legit. He’s shown that he’s willing to defend his position and his ability to shoot the basketball raises his value on the floor immensely.

[player_tooltip player_id="1450433" first="David" last="Hayes"] 6’4 PF Las Vegas Academy|Hard 2 Guard - Hayes may be the ultimate sleeper. He doesn’t play for an accredited H.S, however, he has a signature skill. The 4 man is a hard hat specialist who rebounds like his life depends on it. While he may not have all the offensive tool, his ability to clean the glass is valuable, making him a clear-cut sleeper.

For Exclusive Content With Top Prospects
