Throughout that day, we are supposed to challenge ourselves to smile and embrace the fact that one smile turns into another and so on.
That being said, when you get to watch basketball constantly, finding a smile is often a very easy thing to do. In honor of Smile Power Day, I’m going to give you some players that make me smile just by watching them play.
Jase Becher Jase Becher 6'8" | C Linden | 2025 State MI (2025, C, Linden)
It makes me smile to see a young post player working so hard to advance his game. Becher has proven that he’s willing to listen to the right people and log the gym hours needed to be the best he can be. He’s a high quality passing post player that can hit a teammate in stride with a pass as well as fire back an accurate kick out pass to a shooter.
Joey Cabana Joey Cabana 6'2" | CG Chelsea | 2024 State MI (2024, CG, Chelsea)
Cabana had me hooked at a Flight Hankamp Open Run where showed crazy athleticism. Other players at the open run even came up to me and commented about his athletic improvements. That certainly made me smile. Cabana can shoot, handle, and play at any pace. Combine those with his athletic prowess, and you have a game changer.
Shawn Foreman Shawn Foreman 5'11" | PG Comstock Park | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Comstock Park)
If you watch Foreman man the lead guard spot, you’ll quickly see why his game makes me smile. He’s an elite passer in the 2023 class and deserves more credit for what he does. Foreman sees the floor and can hit a pinpoint pass when on the move. His passing opens a lot of doors for his team’s offense.
EJ Ryans EJ Ryans 6'4" | SG Northview | 2024 State #224 Nation MI (2024, CG, Northview)
On a team full of star quality players, the stars seem to support each other as much as themselves. That makes me smile, so the next man up leader for Northview had to make this list. Ryans can break down a defense off the bounce and create looks for himself and his teammates. He plays with a high basketball IQ and a feel for game siuations.
Jordan Scott Jordan Scott 6'3" | PG Plymouth Christian | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Plymouth Christian)
I love watching this young man hoop. He’s been so patient through the process and it’s really starting to pay dividends, as an excellent spring has seen him again steam as a prospect. Scott has a lot of tools including nice positional size and strength, good court vision, and excellent decision making on the fly.
