Patrick Bath Patrick Bath 6'9" | C Totino Grace | 2023 State MN of Totino-Grace (2023 big). Patrick Bath Patrick Bath 6'9" | C Totino Grace | 2023 State MN continues to play at a high level this summer. He’s getting to the front of the rim in all situations paying within himself and doing it at a constant rate which means big production. Tonight it was 20 points and 12 rebounds, scoring on 10 of 17 shooting. He mixed in a couple high quality spins out of the post with some power pivots for production. He’s playing hard, he’s at the rim constantly, and Patrick is controlling the glass. All things that help his team win and make me think he has a very bright future.
Spencer Hall Spencer Hall 6'3" | SF Wayzata | 2023 State MN of Wayzata (2023 forward). I’ve written this script before but Spencer Hall Spencer Hall 6'3" | SF Wayzata | 2023 State MN is the dependable of all dependables. He just doesn’t make mistakes with the ball or on the defensive end. He had three blocks and that’s not because he’s Chet, it’s his positioning and timing on the defensive end. Spencer also hit 12 of 16 foul shots and most of them were late in the game for his 18 points.
Tommy Humphries Tommy Humphries 6'5" | SF Totino-Grace | 2023 State #283 Nation MN of Totino-Grace (2023 wing). What I will remember the most is the Tommy Humphries Tommy Humphries 6'5" | SF Totino-Grace | 2023 State #283 Nation MN three late in the game that put away Minneapolis South with a minute left. The shot clock was coming down, the defense was tight, and Tommy calmly caught, face, drained and went back on defense with a sure W. It was a 21 point night Humphries leading the team in scoring plus he grabbed 11 rebounds as the Eagles continually held South to one shot attempt. Humphries has also added muscle and I really like how he handled some, took key shots, stepped up on the glass, and did things that veterans do to win games.
Khi-Johnn Cummings-Coleman of Coon Rapids (2024 guard). This was my first viewing of Khi-Johnn live and I loved the engagement he showed. This is a player that played some point, played some wing, scored from the arc, attacked the rim, scored around the cup, pushed in transition, and finished in transition. He did it all with an energetic punch leading teammates both with his decisions, with his voice, and with his energy. Type of plug and play guy that can be used in a lot of ways. Had 27 points on 10 of 22 shooting with 13 rebounds and six assists. A prospect that will be flying up my list.
Isaiah Johnson Isaiah Johnson 6'7" | SF Totino-Grace | 2024 State #135 Nation MN of Osseo (2024 forward). The look, it’s there. Isaiah is a 6’8 forward who is strong and agile. The skills? They look to be there or close to it. Shot looks solid, great passer for his spot, looks to have a solid handle. Isaiah looks perfect for the modern game because of his size, agility, skills, and the all around game. Had 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting with nine boards and four assists and that was with him sitting most of the first half because of foul issues.
CJ O’Hara CJ O’Hara 6'4" | SF Park Center | 2023 State #285 Nation MN of Park Center (2023 wing). O’Hara’s physical abilities set him so far in front of the common high school athlete it’s often not fair. He’s a constant rim finisher as he’s stronger than most and is always on a rim run. CJ scored on 11 of 13 field goals and most of them were at the cup although he did hit a three as well. Defensively he was the guy that spent most of the time trying to contain Daniel Freitag Daniel Freitag 6'1" | PG Breck | 2024 State #142 Nation MN as CJ is physically the most capable in terms of agility and strength.
Trey Smith Trey Smith 6'7" | SF Osseo | 2023 State MN of Osseo (2023 wing). Trey might be the hottest prospect in the 2023 class right now in terms of red hot stock. Not only is he long, skilled, and explosive as a three man, we are seeing him shoot the ball at a high level and he’s really improved his ball skills. He has the potential to do just about everything a scholarship wing would need to do, surely at the D2 level and maybe the lower level of division one basketball. He had 28 points and 8 rebounds making four threes and 10 of 15 shot attempts overall. The spring/summer of Smith continues.
Andy Stefonowicz Andy Stefonowicz 6'2" | PG Minnetonka | 2024 State MN of Minnetonka (2024 guard). If Max is the best passer in the state then Andy is one small shade behind and that small step is likely one year of living. Andy’s ability to read and deliver to a cutter is at an elite level. Tonka gets rim buckets all game partly because the guys hustle and cut hard, and partly because Andy’s delivery is perfectly timed. Add in the three point stroke which is a picture of beauty and you have the reasoning for why I think he’s a sure fire D1 lead guard. Scored his 23 against Osseo on 8 of 12 shooting and those eight assists were even more important. As skilled as they come and it looks so clean.
Hayden Tibbits Hayden Tibbits 5'11" | PG Wayzata | 2023 State MN of Wayzata (2023 point guard). Hayden seemed to have a point to prove immediately and based on his immediate start attacking the rim and turning the ball over with pressure I think it was made. And if that wasn’t enough his game high 24 points on 10 of 15 shooting should have made the biggest statement. DeLaSalle threw a load, aggressive punch and the Trojans took it, and then put the game away behind Tibbits down the stretch. Hayden led his team through all of the noise and a victory came out on the other side. Like it usually does with Tibbits.
Nasir Whitlock Nasir Whitlock 6'2" | PG Delasalle | 2023 State MN of DeLaSalle (2023 point guard). Fresh off a visit to Lehigh, Whitlock looked fresh and ready to battle. He went to a very good Wayzata team for 25 points and seven assists making 8 of 21 attempts. We’ve often said that Nasir is one of the toughest players out there to defend off ball screens and this was another example, and it’s even tougher when he is on from the arc as Nasir hit four threes.
