Continue ReadingSheldon High School kicked off its annual summer tournament on Saturday and 16 varsity teams were at Sheldon and Bushnell University to compete for the crown. Many Oregon prospects were in attendance and we were able to check out Crescent Valley, Grants Pass, Marist Catholic, North Eugene, Willamette, West Albany, Springfield, and Summit. Here are a few standouts from the first day of competition:
Junior Alatorre Junior Alatorre 5'11" | PG Crescent Valley | 2023 State OR G 5’11″ 2023 Crescent Valley
Alarorre is the heart and soul of this Raiders squad. He is a physical defender and shows elite competitive fire. Look for him to have a big second day.
Pearson Carmichael Pearson Carmichael 6'6" | SF Summit | 2024 State #270 Nation OR SF 6’6″ 2024 Summit
Carmichael holds an offer from the University of Portland and many more will surely follow. He was excellent in the first game against Springfield. He has elite size and showed off the ability to get to his spots throughout the evening.
Brysen Kachel Brysen Kachel 6'3" | PF West Albany | 2024 State OR PF 6’2″ 2024 West Albany
Kachel was the star of the evening session at Bushnell. In front of a handful of college coaches, the bruising junior was the catalyst for West Albany’s upset of 6A power Summit. He showed great footwork on the block along with a physical presence not often seen at the prep level. The bulldog offense consistently was able to get Kachel the ball in positions to show off his post moves and smooth jump shot.
Shamond O’Roy Shamond O’Roy 6'2" | CG Willamette | 2023 State OR G 6’2″ 2023 Willamette
Willamette’s lead guard built on his impressive summer league debut from earlier in the week with a solid performance the first night at Bushnell. He flashed elite athleticism and body control. O’Roy excels as a downhill dribbler finishing at the rim.
Mike Small Mike Small 6'1" | CG Willlamette | 2023 State OR G 6’1″ 2023 Willamette
Small has a strong physical playing style that goes along with his relentless hustle. His intensity on the defensive side of the ball is what initially draws the eye but he can also get it done on the offensive end. He shoots the ball well from deep and showed an impressive Euro step.
Wyatt Stassens Wyatt Stassens 6'5" | SG Summit | 2023 State OR SF 6’5″ 2024 Summit
The long wing for the Storm shot the lights out. He went on a hot streak in the second half vs West Albany that kept them in the game. He uses his length on the defensive side to get into passing lanes and create havoc for opposing offenses.
Adam Temesgen Adam Temesgen 6'1" | PG Crescent Valley | 2023 State OR G 6’1″ 2023 Crescent Valley
Temesgen is a calming force on this Crescent Valley team. He showed a wide range of offensive skills the first day. His best skill is an ability to consistently get to the paint off of the dribble.
Peyton Tyner Peyton Tyner 5'7" | PG Marist | 2024 State OR PG 5’7″ 2024 Marist Catholic
The younger brother of former Bushnell All-American Austin Tyner show off an elite game on the first night at Bushnell. Offensively he is shifty and has masterful control of the ball. Along with running the Spartan offensive effectively, he showed the ability to drive and find open shooters all over the floor.
