The event takes place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and will feature 100’s of teams from around the West Region. Several local teams will be participating in this event, which will provide a terrific exposure opportunity for the players. In this article, we take a look at some local players to keep an eye on.
Cedric Laith 6’10 C Liberty 2023 – Laith is a Canadian import originally from the Ivory Coast. He’s described by HC Kevin Soares as a “Big strong athletic” player. He also arrives with a reputation for being skilled. I’m excited to see that skill on display this week, as well as his chemistry with superstar guard DJ Thomas DJ Thomas 6'2" | PG Liberty | 2024 #19 Nation NV .
EJ Dacuma EJ Dacuma 5'9" | PG Sierra Vista | 2025 State NV 5’9 PG Sierra VIsta 2025 (#15PHN 2025) – Dacuma showed a lot of potential despite missing some action during the high school season. When he played, he showed how vital he was to the offense and the overall success of the team. I’m really interested in seeing what he does, now that he’s in rhythm.
Jalen Butler Jalen Butler 6'2" | CG Shadow Ridge | 2025 State NV 6’0 CG Spring Valley 2025 (#28PHN 2025) – Butler adds a nice infusion of talent to the Grizzlies. The combo has shown a variety of offensive skills during the Spring. He’s a good driver, and a capable three-point shooter, however, his playmaking may be the skill that catches your eye. Looking to gauge how much his overall defensive instincts have increased from freshman to sophomore year.
Giali Chapman Giali Chapman 6'3" | CG Mojave | 2023 State NV 6’0 CG Mojave 2023 (#21PHN 2023) – Chapman is a lot of things, but I think most importantly he’s a winner. The combo has a lot of intangibles including the “he just knows how to play” vibe. His tangible attributes are huge as well. He scores the ball off slashes, open threes and transitions finishes. He’ll be playing with a ton of confidence coming off a state title for the Rattlers, he’s a player that could have a strong showing this week.
Chris Nwuli Chris Nwuli 6'7" | SF Wasatch Academy | 2025 State #38 Nation UT 6’7 SF Bishop Gorman 2025 (#1PHN 2025) (featured image) – Saw Nwuli at Pangos camp, and I think there were some good things there. Now beginning in his second year at Gorman, look for him to make his next leap. His sheer physicality and athleticism is impressive, now the challenge for him comes, with the stacking of skills. Looking to see how comfortable he shoots the ball, and what type of plays he can make off the bounce.
Sterling Knox Sterling Knox 6'5" | SF Red Rock Academy | 2023 State NV 6’4 SF Durango 2023 (#3PHN 2023) – Got a look at Knox last week in Utah and he still does a little bit of everything for Durango. He’s got sneaky good bounce, and he came a vicious foul away from catching a body. I think people will be surprised by his athleticism. If he produces the way he usually does and can play above the rim a couple of times, watch out.
Angelo Kambala Angelo Kambala 5'10" | CG Liberty | 2023 State NV 6’0 CG Liberty 2023 (#4PHN 2023) – The c/o 2023 rankings are going to see a lot of moving and shaking, and Kambala is a player with a chance to compete for the top spot. He doubles as one of the best two-way, and 3 and D players in the state, and is a guy that can flat-out shoot the ball. He’s a guy that if he was a few inches taller would probably be a power 5 guard. As it is the school that gets him will be getting a talented winner, that has produced throughout his career.
