Imhotep (2-0)
Tep stepped on the court like their state title game was last week. No single player went off scoring-wise, but everyone was diving on the floor for loose balls and locked in on defense for both games. Justin Edwards Justin Edwards 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #3 Nation PA blended scoring and facilitating (9 pts/g). The chemistry between him and his Team Final 17U teammates, Ramiro Barno (9.5 pts/g) and Ahmad Nowell Ahmad Nowell 6'0" | PG Imhotep Charter | 2024 State #36 Nation PA (10 pts/g) played a part in their success too. Equally important contributions came from Yahmir Satterfield (9.5 pts/g) and Malcolm Muhammad Malcolm Muhammad 6'0" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA (5 pts/g), who figure to be key rotation players this season. Jeremiah White Jeremiah White 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA , in his first game back with the team, and MaKye Taylor were active in the post, while newcomer Baasil Saunders Baasil Saunders 6'4" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA added size and playmaking on the wing.
Neumann-Goretti (1-1)
Once they got their legs under them, after winning the PCL & the 6A State titles and losing a couple starters to graduation, the Saints played their typical brand of basketball. Robert Wright III Robert Wright III 6'0" | PG Montverde Academy (FL) | 2024 State #35 Nation FL found angles to get to and score in the paint (14 pts/g). Khaafiq Myers Khaafiq Myers 5'10" | PG Neumann-Goretti | 2024 State PA played well through contact – navigating screens on defense and finishing at the rim (8 pts/g). Sultan Adewale Sultan Adewale 6'8" | SF Neumann-Goretti | 2023 State #205 Nation PA protected the rim and scored inside (6 pts/g). Amir Williams Amir Williams 6'6" | SF Neuman-Goretti | 2024 State PA is improving as a shooter and he caught 2 bodies above the rim (5.5 pts/g). Bruce Smith picked up where he left off last season as a two-way wing (8 pts vs SCH). With the 10 points he scored against SCH, Tymir Brown looks like he will get regular minutes this season too.
St. Joseph’s Prep (2-0)
Jaron McKie Jaron McKie 6'2" | SG St. Joseph's Prep | 2025 State #74 Nation PA ‘s 19 pts/g was one of the higher scoring averages on Day 1, but the Prep really played unselfishly. He shot well from deep. Jalen Harper Jalen Harper 6'4" | PG St. Joseph’s Prep | 2024 State PA got it done as a slasher (11 pts/g). Olin Chamberlain Olin Chamberlain 6'0" | PG St Joseph's Prep | 2025 State PA Jr kept them steady at the point (9.5 pts/g), while Jordan Ellerbee Jordan Ellerbee 6'2" | CG St. Joseph’s Prep | 2025 State PA did a little of everything on both ends as a connector (5 pts/g). Tristen Guillouette Tristen Guillouette 6'9" | C George School | 2024 State PA didn’t have to score much (5 pts/g), but he did block shots and make some nice passes from the high post. Matthew Gorman stretched the floor throughout both match ups with multiple threes (8.5 pts/g). Overall, SJP had a great showing for their first day back together and only having eight guys.
Archbishop Carroll (2-0)
For a young team still getting its core to gel, Carroll executed well. Dean Coleman-Newsome Dean Coleman-Newsome 6'2" | PG Archbishop Carroll | 2023 State PA led the way with 16 points per contest, using his power to get to drive and rebound against taller opponents. Jake West Jake West 6'1" | PG William Penn Charter | 2025 State #193 Nation PA is rounding out his game offensively, hitting 3 treys versus SCH. The Patriots went undefeated on the day.
Individual Standouts
Ifé West-Ingram | 6’6 W ‘23 Abington Friends
West-Ingram has developed physically and skill-wise since he last put on a Roos uniform. Suiting up for Philly Pride in the spring, Ife used his physical tools to finish play on defense (blocks & steals) and offense (assisted rim attempts). He averaged 10 points in two games, but the highlight of the Day 1 was against St. Joe’s when his teammate threw an alley-oop on the right side of the rim as Ife respectfully jogged from the left side to catch and throw it down like he was on gamebreaker mode in NBA Street.
Nasir Washington Nasir Washington 6'2" | SG Penn Wood | 2023 State PA | 6’3 G ‘23 West Philadelphia
The Speedboys are coming off a historic season where they upset a number o Catholic League and Public League A teams. They also graduated their do-everything point forward. So it was understandable that they were down 9 early against Constitution and still trailing at half…But Nas Washington. He led them to the comeback win by creating off the bounce and making tough shots. He also cashed in 4 big ones from behind the arc. Expect the Speedboys to be a competitive bunch again this year.
Ernest Shelton Ernest Shelton 6'3" | CG Father Judge | 2023 State PA | 6’3 G ‘23 Father Judge
Shooters shoot and Ern does what shooters do. He came out the gates with bad intentions against Radnor, knocking down 5 threes. He shot it off of movement; he shot it from the stand-still. And when defenders closed out hard, he was able to put the ball on the floor to maintain the advantage. Shelton finished with 19 points in that game. As he gets stronger, sky’s the limit.
