The Camp, hosted by recruiting legend Dinos Trigons is one of the top exposure events of the summer, featuring several of the top prospects in the nation. The camp takes place at Bishop Gorman High School and consists of skills and drills training and camp games. Day 1 consisted of only two sessions and 6 games, while day two consisted of multiple sessions and 12 games. Let’s recap the news and notes from the day.
Carey Booth Carey Booth 6'8" Cherry Creek | 2023 CO 6’9 PF Cherry Creek (#5PHCO 2023) (featured image) – Booth was impressive on day 1. I got a chance to watch him play and was impressed with his ability to shoot the ball and his athleticism. The rangy forward looked really comfortable stepping out on the floor and shooting the ball and had no problem finishing at the rim.
Trey Green 5’10 PG Link Academy 2023 – Green was one of the better two-way guards I saw. He displayed quick hands, picking a few ballhandlers clean. He showed off his athleticism, throwing down a dunk in transition. His wiggle was nice, and he used a good burst to get by defenders.
DJ Thomas DJ Thomas 6'2" | PG Liberty | 2024 #19 Nation NV 6’1 PG Liberty 2024 (#1PHN 2024) – In my preview article, I talked about how this could be a coming-out party for Thomas on the National stage. Well, he hasn’t disappointed. The lefty has shown off one of the best handles while going to work in 1 v 1 situations. His passing ability is bordering on special as he hit several cutting teammates for dimes in the game I watched today.
Karter Knox 6’5 SG Tampa Catholic 2024 – I didn’t see a ton of Knox, but when I did he was usually hanging off the rim. The athletic swingman was a terror in transition, throwing down several dunks in the short time I got to see him play.
Baye Fall Baye Fall 6'11" | C Luthern Christian | 2023 State #13 Nation CO 6’11 C Accelerated Schools 2023 (#1PHCO) – Fall has come a long way in the past few years. He’s one of the top high motor guys in the country, and will always be able to earn minutes because of it. Where he showed improvement was in his offensive game. I thought the big man showed good footwork and looked surprisingly comfortable with his back to the basket.
Ugonna Kingsley Onyenso 7’0 C Putnam Science 2023 – UKO made the most of his time on the floor today. The big man was elite at exactly two things, finishing and rim protecting. Those two skills make the 7-footer a valuable commodity, for the power 5’s desperate for his services.
Jackson Shelstad Jackson Shelstad 6'0" | PG West Linn | 2023 State #55 Nation OR 6’1 PG West Linn 2023 (#1PHOR 2023) – Shelstad played with terrific pace all day. He’s the type of player that never seems to be going that fast, however, he was always going faster than his opponents. In addition to some big-time blow by skills, the Oregon commit showed a smooth stroke, burying multiple threes in the game I watched.
Chris Johnson 6’4 SG Missouri City 2023 – Johnson had the best 1 v 1 game I saw on the day. He was able to beat defenders going forward, backward, and to the side. He showed a good wiggle, crossing up several defenders, and for those fortunate enough to stay in front of him, the guard put his step-back game to work, separating before splashing several tough jumpers.
