The event ran from June 23 to June 26 and featured some up and coming teams as well as some already established teams. I was able to attend the event on Saturday June 25 and here’s a look at some additional top talent I saw.
1. Donovan Cornelius – LACES 2024
Cornelius is a wing who is comfortable with the ball in his hands. This was my first time seeing him play and he was impressive as a scorer. He can shoot off the dribble and he can slash to the rim. Good body control and he’s able to draw fouls and get to the free-throw line. He can also finish strong through contact. Consistent shooter from three-point range on catch and shoot. He uses shot fakes well and can be a playmaker too in the halfcourt.
2. Amaan Zavahir – St. Anthony 2024
Zavahir has a nice offensive package as a wing. He handles the ball well and pushes the pace in transition. Strong baseline drives and can finish at the rim. He can also draw contact at the rim and get himself to the free-throw line. He can step out and shoot too. He has a nice fadeaway jumper if he’s posting up in the mid post area and he can shoot it well from three-point range.
3. Jaymari Redmond – Long Beach Jordan 2025
Redmond stood out as a pass first point guard. He’s a good ball-handler who keeps the ball moving in the halfcourt. Does a good job reading the defense and finding open teammates. Good vision off the dribble. He uses screens well. For a guard, he positions himself well to fight for rebounds. He’s a good shooter from three-point range and he can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim if the defense runs him off the three-point line.
4. Alonzo Gonzalez – Wiseburn-Da Vinci 2024
Gonzalez is a slight and lanky wing who makes a lot of hustle plays. He crashes the glass well against bigger players. He tries hard defensively too on ball trying to stop the ball-handler and force them to pick up the dribble. He spots up well from beyond the arc and is a consistent three-point shooter. He is also able to put the ball on the floor if run off the arc. A couple of times he drew contact at the rim and got to the line. Keeps the ball moving in the halfcourt too.
