The event ran from June 23 to June 26 and featured some up and coming teams as well as some already established teams. I was able to attend the event on Saturday June 25 and here’s a look at some of the top talent I saw.
1. Jaedyn Patterson – St Anthony 2025
Patterson is a legit threat to score from anywhere on the court. He was without a doubt the top player I saw at the event. He’s a strong wing with good slashing ability. He’s crafty with the ball in his hands and hits defenders with a little Euro-step to the rim. He can finish in the paint through contact. He has good vision and can also kick out to shooters on his drives. Quick hands defensively.
2. Dennis Redmond Jr. – Long Beach Jordan 2023
Redmond stood out for his ability in the open court. He pushes the pace in transition looking to get fast break scoring opportunities. He can handle the ball and attack and he’s tough to stop getting downhill. He can finish strong at the rim in transition. He also showed the ability to attack off the dribble and get to the rim in halfcourt as well.
3. Anthony Hrboka – San Pedro 2023
Hrboka stood out as a solid guard who has a mix of both scoring and playmaking. In the game I saw, he looked the part of a pass-first player. He kept the ball moving in the halfcourt. Did a good job attacking from the baseline and kicking the ball back out to open teammates. Good ball-handler who can dribble under defensive pressure. Showed off a nice catch and shoot ability from three-point range.
4. Gabe Pearson – Price 2023
Pearson is in the mold of a playmaking wing. He’s comfortable handling the ball and being able to find open teammates. Strong drives to the rim where he can either finish and score or kick the ball back out. He was the primary ball-handler for parts of the game I saw and he can attack in transition or get to the rim in the halfcourt. Solid shooter from three-point range.
