The most iconic of the Games is the return of the Memorial Day Weekend Basketball Tournament held every year in Albuquerque. The tourney tipped off on Friday May 27th and run through Sunday May 29th, 2022. It has been 3 years since the New Mexico Games held its last basketball tournament which was in 2019. COVID stopped the basketball tournament from happening in 2020 and the state of New Mexico didn’t open early enough in 2021. The New Mexico Games basketball tournament ran through Memorial Day Weekend May 27th-29th, 2022 at University of New Mexico’s Johnson Gym. There were 14 divisions slated to take the court including High School, Men’s & Women’s open, as well as the top gun teams in the Men’s Open. Basketball fans were invited to come and watch all the action all weekend long which will feature competitive teams contending for gold medals. In this article there was several players who stood out during the tournament.

Despite a loss to the Duke City Hoopers this past Friday night, Shane Douma-Sanchez Shane Douma-Sanchez 6'0" | PG Del Norte | 2023 State NM made his presence felt on the court. The State Champion showed his elite offensive game from all areas on the floor. Shane scored many of his points by scoring in transition. He had several mid-range and long-range pull ups in the game. Shane had a few nice floaters inside when driving to the basket. During the game he also had some catch and shoot jumpers along with some fadeaways that Friday night.
