Forty Iowans are among the players who will be in attendance. In this article, we take a look at the wings from the Class of 2023 that made the cut and will play this weekend.
Pryce Sandfort Pryce Sandfort 6'7" | SF Waukee Northwest | 2023 State #123 Nation IA (Waukee Northwest)
The state’s top player may be nearing a decision, with several “Crystal Ball” predictions in for Iowa, where he would join older brother Payton. Pryce is coming off of a ridiculous junior season for Northwest, averaging 26.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.9 blocks, and 1.4 steals while posting 53-41-89 splits. He’s an elite shooter with excellent size and length, which makes him a versatile defender. He’s also a high-level playmaker who can get to the rim at will. His three-level scoring and defense made him a highly coveted prospect.
Dallas Bear Dallas Bear 6'8" | SF Cedar Falls | 2023 State #276 Nation IA (Cedar Falls)
Bear is a matchup nightmare because of his versatility on the offensive end. He’s got great size at 6-8 and is one of the best shooters in the state, so if you put a smaller defender on him, he’s just going to get to his shot and shoot over them. If you put a bigger defender on him, he’s got the handle and ability to break down the defense and get to the rim. He holds offers from Augustana, Bryant, and North Dakota, but a big weekend in Kansas City could open a number of doors for the talented shooter from Cedar Falls.
Drew Kingery Drew Kingery 6'4" | SF Indianola | 2023 State IA (Indianola)
A 6-5/6-6 wing who is oozing with potential, Kingery has good size and is a high-level perimeter shooting threat who has steadily improved his all-around offensive game, emerging as a playmaker and three-level scorer. His length and athleticism make him a viable defender as well. He currently holds a North Dakota offer.
Padraig Gallagher Padraig Gallagher 6'5" | SF Beckman Catholic | 2023 State IA (Beckman Catholic)
A big-bodied 6-5 wing who can score from all three levels, Gallagher has always been one of the best shooters in the state, but he has really made a concerted effort to improve his ball-handling and playmaking over the last year, and the results have been strong. He moves well off the ball and has turned himself into a reliable decision-maker who can get others involved when he’s playing with the ball in his hands.
Elijah Vos Elijah Vos 6'4" | SF Hoover | 2023 State IA (Hoover)
Another big-bodied wing who does a good job using his physicality to score around the bucket is Vos, a 6-5 wing from Des Moines. He has good footwork and is willing to take smaller defenders onto the block and score, and he’s also a knockdown shooter from the perimeter.
Traijan Sain Traijan Sain 6'5" | SF Cedar Rapids Washington | 2023 State IA (Cedar Rapids Washington)
Sain has always been filled with potential, and he’s really started to put everything together over the last 12 months. A long and athletic 6-5 wing who can score from all three levels, he has greatly improved his ability to create his own shot as well as gained confidence in his jumper with range out to the arc. He has the ability to defend multiple positions and has a real chance to get on radars with a big showing this weekend.
Chase Low Chase Low 6'3" | PF Charles City | 2023 State IA (Charles City)
Low is one of the better athletes in the 2023 class, an explosive leaper who competes hard on the glass on both ends of the floor and has the ability to put the ball on the deck, get to the bucket, and finish hard through contact. He provides some defensive versatility with his length and quickness.
Lucas Lueth Lucas Lueth 6'6" | SF Ames | 2023 State IA (Ames)
Arguably the best all-around defensive player in the state, Lueth will have a chance to showcase his defensive chops against some of the top perimeter scorers in the Midwest. A prototypical 3-and-D wing at the collegiate level, he has the perfect blend of length, athleticism, instincts, and IQ. He’s a good perimeter shooting threat as well, knocking down 34% of his attempts from the arc as a junior with room for improvement.
Riley Edwards Riley Edwards 6'3" | SG Southeast Polk | 2023 State IA (Southeast Polk)
A 6-3/6-4 wing who can score from all three levels, Edwards emerged as one of 4A’s top scoring options as a junior, averaging 19.0 points a game. He’s a tough shotmaker who gets to his preferred spots and gets his shot off whenever he wants.
Preston Dobbs Preston Dobbs 6'5" | SF Sioux City East | 2023 State IA (Sioux City East)
A 6-5 shooter, Dobbs really emerged as a solid scoring threat for the Black Raiders as a junior, averaging 12.1 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting nearly 39% from behind the arc. He has a quick release off the catch and moves well off the ball. He does a good job utilizing his size to get his shot off.
