In this article, we are checking out the impressive backcourt players from Thursday’s games. The next article we do will focus on forwards/frontcourt players. Look below for some of the top guards from Thursday.
Jaxon Beiswenger Jaxon Beiswenger 6'4" | SG Fargo Davies | 2024 ND (2024) |6’4 SG| Fargo Davies
He really stood out yesterday as a shooter from downtown. Jaxon was smoking hot and he showed off deep range. He went on a stretch where he drilled many triples in a short amount of time. Beiswenger is a long guard with a high shooting release. He crashed the O-boards hard and he gets up and down the court in a hurry. Jaxon followed his own shot and scored on a quick stick-back bucket. A bit later in the game, he scored on another O-board putback. It was my first time watching Beiswenger and I was very impressed.
Caden Englund Caden Englund 6'2" | CG Shiloh Christian | 2025 State ND (2025) |6’0 G| Shiloh Christian
He stood out right away as a quick athlete with a nice crossover move. He put his defender on his heels and his legs got shaky, Englund had little trouble shaking his D-matchup. I really liked how Englund changed speeds and beat the D off the bounce. He showed a very nice pull-up jump shot. Caden is very shifty when inside the arc and attacking off the dribble. Englund also showed off his three-point shooting with a transition triple.
Raymond Brown Raymond Brown 5'11" | PG Fargo Davies | 2023 State ND (2023) |5’11 G| Fargo Davies
He was one of the top athletes in the building on Friday. Brown looked smooth when knocking down a 3-pointer. He showed elite speed when pushing in tempo and he scored with a physical finish. Brown also dished assists in transition. He is at his best in a fast-paced game. Brown was great at attacking closeouts and hitting the 2-dribble pull-up before he made it to the Jefferson BIGs.
Mason Klabo Mason Klabo 6'2" | PG Fargo Davies | 2025 State #240 Nation ND (2025) |6’1 G| Fargo Davies
I was impressed with his many physical finishes at the rim. It is hard to believe that Klabo just completed his freshman year of high school. He was killing it off the bounce yesterday, Klabo’s crossover left many defenders in the dust. Mason is very gifted at changing speeds to keep defenders off balance. He is so aggressive for such a young player! The NDSU coaches certainly like Klabo, they offered him this winter and they had 3 coaches watching from the front row yesterday.
Daniel Yorke Daniel Yorke 6'1" | SG Fargo Davies | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’0 G| Fargo Davies
He was another top athlete in the gym yesterday. He stuck out with hustle and offensive boards. Yorke looked good slashing and scoring on multiple occasions. He has good body control when going up for a finish. Dan does not let a defender in his face stop him from scoring. He is another Davies player that thrives in up-tempo transition play. He made a few nice plays when penetrating, drawing help defense, and kicking to shooters on the perimeter. Yorke also creates TO’s on defense. He will be an important piece of the puzzle for the Eagles next season.
Taylen Ashley Taylen Ashley 5'11" | PG Sf Roosevelt | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’0 PG| Sioux Falls Jefferson
If you want to see an impressive athlete, then you need to watch Ashley play. Taylen had many impressive finishes that showed excellent hang-time, creativity, and laser-sharp focus. His athleticism really showed off with a reverse layup finish where left the floor from the block and floated across the front of the rim to the other side of the hoop and he flipped the ball in for a score. For a PG I thought he set some very nice backscreens in their halfcourt offense. He showed off his elusiveness when splitting a double team on the way to the rim for a basket. He knocked down multiple smooth 3-pointers and he looks to be a better shooter than I realized. Taylen is a top QB in SD and he showed off his precision passing with a 3/4 court dime with a 1-handed pass off the dribble. Ashley is a special player and he is one of the best from SODAK.
Karson Ouse Karson Ouse 6'8" | SF Kindred | 2025 State #283 Nation ND (2025) |6’5 SG| Kindred
He is a hybrid player, for the sake of this article we are considering Ouse to be a SG/wing. He had multiple dunks. Karson slammed home athletic two-handed whams, he made them look easy. On defense, Karson looked great at altering shots. He goes straight up to contest. Ouse is smart and avoids fouls by doing this. He showed clever anticipation when picking off a pass late in the game for 2 much-needed points. His long arms help him take away passing lanes and force TO’s. In the next game, Ouse was drilling triples. He was hitting them in catch-n-shoot and off the bounce. He also handles the ball well and has a good feeling for the game. Ouse is a STUD and a big stock riser this spring.
