Continue ReadingThe Holy Names Team Camp in Oakland CA, was an opportunity for PH NorCal to see prospects play with their high school teams versus their club. June is usually reserved for high school team camps/ clinics, practices, and summer league play until the club season begins again in July. Here’s more standouts from the team camp.
Mazie Brooks 6’2 2023 Guard of Berkeley HS.
He has a good post up game for a guard, a solid body and gives a good target for the entry pass. He has some bounce, using his body to seal defenders, and takes it up strong inside. He used a good cross over dribble to go by his defenders from the perimeter to get paint jumpers, and lay-ups. He’s a rebounding guard. He’s tenacious and he talks on defense.
Ollie Miller 5’10 2024 PG of Berkeley HS.
Miller does a good job of setting and running the teams offense. He has the good handles and vision it takes to run half-court sets. He makes good entry passes to the post, he probes along the perimeter with his dribble looking for his own opportunities to get into the paint, he has a good floater, and paint jumper. He looks to pass up in transition.
Anthony Foster 6’0 2023 SG of Concord HS.
Foster is the do-it-all guy on this team, he’s up for the challenge. The lefty uses his dribble to get to the places for the shot he wants to take. He’s fast in the open court using his handles and aggressiveness to get into the paint. He has a decent shot off the dribble, his mid-range goes down, he did hit a couple of 3’s in transition. He’s a hard playing prospect on both sides of the ball.
Zach Willsie 6’9 2023 F/C of Concord HS.
We’ll put Willsie in the late bloomer or project column. He’s 6’9 and is long. He understands what he can do right now, block shots, get his share of rebounds, and be a target in the post. He does pass okay, and will hustle up the court. He has to continue to improve his post footwork, add muscle to his frame. He gives a good effort. We’ll keep an eye on him.
Adrian Vasquez 6’5 2024 Forward of Kennedy. HS Fremont
Vasquez a bit on the raw side but does have some tools to work with. He gives good effort in and around the basket. He has good length to use for his shot off high on the glass. He had some success setting up at the high post, his passing to shooters on the wings, he found cutters, and he put it on the floor for one dribble to the rim.
Nasir Shannon 6’1 2024 W/G of Kennedy HS, Fremont.
An up and coming prospect who looks to shoot the 3pt shot in transition, or spotting up in corners or wings on the perimeter, he hit a few. He has good length and a solid body to finish at the rim in transition. His lateral movement and speed helped him stay in front of defenders. He has some tools to work with, but needs to be more aggressive on the court.
