This is the beginning of next season, when JV players earn their spots on the Varsity, and when the hot shot Freshman tries to make his case for a spot on the Varsity. Here’s some of the top players from this event.
Josiah Jones Josiah Jones 6'0" | CG St. Patrick-St. Vincent | 2024 CA-N 5’10 2024 Guard of St. Patrick-St. Vincent HS
Jones is primed and ready to lead this team going forward. The athletic guard plays with supreme confidence knowing he can produce when called upon. At this event the one game we saw. He displayed a series of mid-range jumpers around the free throw area that dropped regularly. He had several fade away jumpers he made look routine. He’s a rising player in NorCal.
Austin Ito Austin Ito 6'1" | PG Woodcreek | 2023 State CA-N 6’1 2023 Guard of Woodcreek HS.
Ito put on a 3pt shooting display to start the game we saw. He’s an excellent shooter from mid-range and beyond the 3pt line. He moves and handles well on the court, always looking for the advantage. He spots up well for 3’s in the corner, his 3ptr off the dribble was good. He’ll work his way into the paint on occasion to finish with floaters. He’s on the Wright’s Watch List.
Colton Dukes Colton Dukes 6'1" | SG Atwater | 2023 State CA-N 6’1 2023 Guard of Atwater HS.
Dukes was a little slow to get started, but soon picked things up. He’s a good all around productive player on this team. He’s a conditioned athlete who can run the floor all game. He had strong drives from the perimeter to the basket, he filled the lanes for tough transition baskets. When his 3’s are falling he’s tough to guard. We’ll see more of him.
Tobias Aisien Tobias Aisien 6'4" | SF Bishop O'Dowd | 2024 State CA-N 6’5 2024 W/F of Bishop O’Dowd HS.
This could be a progressive year for Aisien, the long armed wing player. He looks to be improved and more confident handling the ball on the perimeter, and in transition. He had good vision and passing. Early in the Spring he was finishing with dunks in transition, and getting his rebounds. We’ll keep an eye on him.
Taye Hollins 6’3 2023 Guard of Woodcreek HS.
Hollins showed us a smooth stroke from the 3pt line. He’s calm player who can run the offense if called upon. He showed a willingness to set the offense up top, his handles and vision were good. He can get to his spots off the dribble for the mid-range jumpers. He has good awareness on the court. He could be one to look for moving forward.
Darryl Pouncey 6’2 2023 Forward of St. Patrick-St. Vincent. HS
Pouncey will probably be the man in the middle on this team at times. He’s standing 6’2, he’s a solid body and moves well in the paint area, finishing strong around the basket against taller players. He can beat his man off the dribble along the baseline. He’ll run the court in transition.
Amos Hodgson Amos Hodgson 6'2" | SG Bishop O'Dowd | 2023 State CA-N 6’2 2023 SG of Bishop O’Dowd HS
He’s a hard playing aggressive player, this team depends on him to put points on the board. He has good foot speed, he handles and moves well with or without the ball. He gets good looks at the basket, uses his toughness to get into the paint. He does a good job filling lanes and converting in transition. His game goes to another level when he’s knocking down his jumper.
KJ Ross 6’1 2023 CG of Atwater HS.
Ross can do a little bit of everything. He fits well with this high energy group that likes to play fast, lacking any real size in the post. Ross serves as one of the players who can battle for the boards, push the break after rebounding. He plays big, but at 6’1 he’s a capable guard with legitimate handles to get into the paint off the dribble. He’s on the Watch List
Thomas Motil 5’10 2023 PG, SG of Saint Francis HS.
Motil looks ready to carry some of the load this season. He’s bulked up and seems more sure of himself when running the point. His ball handling and decision making was good the game we saw. He can move off the ball and be a knock down shooter from 3 during any time of the game. We’ll see if he can do it consistently. He’s a shooter that has to be accounted for.
