With high school teams practicing, team camps, and other events taking place, there is a ton of basketball going on. Yesterday we looked at some players that seem to be heating up in June. In Part 2, we’ll look at some more players that have been standing out this month.
Markus Blackwell Markus Blackwell 6'1" | CG Warren Lincoln | 2025 State MI (2025, CG, Warren Lincoln)
Blackwell was flat out dominant at the Purdue – Fort Wayne Team Camp. We’re talking one of the best in the gym type of good. He controlled the game and the tempo throughout the event, leading his team to a 2-1 record. In 3 games, Blackwell finished with 32, 30, and 27 points.
Tristan Comer (2026, PF, Freeland)
Comer is a name we’ll be hearing a lot in the coming years. He’s a big, powerful above the rim finisher, but that’s just the start of his story. Comer has the look of a nice mid range game as well. He has excellent footwork for a young post player of his size and strength.
David Portenga (2023, CG, Unity Christian)
There are definitely whispers going around regarding his performance and improvement. He’s showing the ability to get in the lane going to his right and scoring with a pretty pull up jumper. Portenga has also brought some defensive intensity on the perimeter.
Deonte Roberts (2023, CG, Lansing Waverly)
The entire Waverly team has turned heads and Roberts has been one of the keys. He showed out both at Saginaw Valley State and Olivet team camps. Roberts has been attacking off the bounce with both hands and finishing with both as well. He’s been a bouncy ball handler that has lost defenders with his quick and smooth change of direction.
Xander Wedlow Xander Wedlow 6'9" | PF University Prep | 2024 State MI (2024, PF, UPrep)
Wedlow put his best foot forward at the Dayton Flyers Team Camp. He turned heads at the event as an extremely high upside post player. Wedlow flaunted his length, vertical defense, and his ability to track the ball off the rim.
Donny Yeager Donny Yeager 6'0" | PG Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central | 2024 State MI (2024, CG, Nouvel Catholic Central)
While his brother was on the list yesterday, Donny had to be on it today. If you had a statewide 3 point shooting contest, Donny Yeager Donny Yeager 6'0" | PG Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central | 2024 State MI would have to be there. In 3 games in June he finished with 17, 10, and 37 points. Yeager is a game changer when he heats up from behind the arc.
