Playing with EG10 2023 throughout the spring, the 6’2″ guard put up some insane scoring numbers that caught the attention of college coaches at all levels. Let’s get to know a little bit more about the high-scoring left-handed guard.

Strengths
- Scoring. In terms of purely getting buckets there aren’t many better in the state of Indiana than Carson. The 6’2″ lefty can create his own shot off of the dribble, catch-and-shoot from the beyond the arc, and make plays for his teammates from the perimeter.
- Physical strength. Carson is a big body in the backcourt that can play through contact on his way to the basket and doesn’t get bothered by pressure defense.
- Shot-making. This goes hand-in-hand with his scoring ability, but Carson is a really good shooter as well. He can make tough shots off of the dribble with seemingly limitless range while also hitting pull-ups and finishing at the rim. His ability to create offense for himself while also making tough shots is what makes him such a tough cover defensively.
Areas for Improvement
- Fitting into the offense. Right now, Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN IS the offense. Whether it be for the Anderson Indians during the high school season or on the Prep Hoops Circuit with EG10, the ball is in Carson’s hands and everything runs through him. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing when you can score it the way he does. However, at the highest levels, fitting into a system is important. Some college coaches want to see the ball move a little more as opposed to sometimes excessive dribbling that comes with Carson’s game.
- Defense. There are some lateral quickness concerns and a thought that Carson may “rest” on defense at times to save himself for the offensive end. His physicality should in theory make him at least an average perimeter defender. College coaches just want to see a little more buy-in on that end of the floor to match his offensive production.
Recruitment
Speaking with his high school coach Donnie Bowling over the weekend at the Charlie Hughes Showcase, college coaches certainly are active when it comes to their interest in Carson. Right now, there are some schools searching to shut his recruitment down by getting a commitment behind the scenes before offers become public. There is a thought that when his recruitment becomes more public that things will snowball and really take off which obviously worries the schools already invested in the prospect.
Whether it be at the Division II/NAIA level, or even at the low-major Division I level it is obvious that Carson will be able to score the basketball. He has proven that he can contribute to winning as well as he helped improve Anderson’s record from 11-11 to 20-5 last season.
Final Thoughts
There is no denying the scoring ability of Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN . Throughout the Prep Hoops Circuit in the spring he had multiple 30 and 40-point performances. At the Charlie Hughes Showcase he scored 51 points in a win for the Indians. Those numbers are bound to turn heads. Any college program that needs an influx of scoring is going to want to see Carson during the July live periods.
