The event hosted by recruiting legend Tim Davis features teams from around the Western Region and age groups from 3rd grade to High School Varsity. Several local players have had an impact on the event. In this article, we take a look at some local standouts from day two.
Mason Brown Mason Brown 6'1" | PG Durango | 2025 CA-S 6’2 PG Durango 2025 (#2PHN 2025) – Brown looked like a player ready to compete for that number 1 spot. What I loved about him yesterday was his ability to play under control. I liken him to an All-Pro offensive lineman, who doesn’t get noticed because he doesn’t make any mistakes. Brown did an excellent job of just making the game simple. When he was open he shot it, when they closed he drove when they collapsed he dished. Looking for him to really start getting his name on the recruiting radar next week at section 7.
Dylan Chavez Dylan Chavez 6'5" | SG La Cueva | 2024 State #268 Nation NM 6’3 SG ABC 2024 (#2PHNM 2024) – Chavez shot the ball well. He is starting to become one of the most consistent corner shooters in his class when he has time to get his shot off. Seemed like his shooting opened up other areas of his game as well, as he also showed the ability to create for teammates.
Harrison Frank Harrison Frank 6'1" | SF Del Norte | 2023 State NM 6’1 SF Del Norte 2023 (#12PHNM 2023) – Frank did a little bit of everything. He was a backup ballhandler, defended multiple positions, and made corner threes when called upon by the team.
Tylen Riley Tylen Riley 6'2" | CG Durango | 2023 State NV 6’2 CG Durango 2023 (#6PHN 2023) – His best trait has always been his defense and motor, however, he showed off an improving offensive game, knocking down a couple of catch and shoot threes.
Jaylen Pollard 6’6 SF Red Rock Academy 2022 – Pollard who played mostly inside when he was at Canyon Springs showed some ball skills. The 6’6 wing shot it a little bit, knocking down a three, and showed good offensive versatility, becoming a playmaker for his team. Pollard hit a couple of teammates with dimes for easy baskets.
Marcus Lawson 6’4 SG Red Rock Academy 2022 (featured image) – Lawson played with a lot of activity, and it was evident by his last-second put-back to help send the game against American Fork into overtime. He played above the rim and showed that he can score in 1 v 1 situations and when playing off the ball.
James Freemen 6’5 SF Red Rock Academy 2022 – Freemen handled a little more than I saw him when he was playing with Gorman. It was not unusual to see him dancing with the ball on the perimeter. He still scored relying on his bread and butter… his athleticism. The bouncy forward got out and finished, scoring several buckets for his team in transition.
