This weekend was the first live period of June which means college coaches from all levels are allowed to evaluate games in-person. Needless to say, there were many coaches in attendance. Here are a few standout bigs I was able to watch play over the weekend.
2023 7’0 C Gai Chol Gai Chol 7'0" | C Greenforest Christian Academy | 2023 State GA – Greenforest
Gai Chol Gai Chol 7'0" | C Greenforest Christian Academy | 2023 State GA and Dk Dut were physically dominant all weekend long and together, they’ll make up one of Georgia’s top front court duos this year. Gai Chol Gai Chol 7'0" | C Greenforest Christian Academy | 2023 State GA was eating up everything around the rim, swatting layups away and anchoring the Greenforest defense. Offensively, Chol knows how to use his size to his advantage. He’s good at using his body to pin defenders and finishing over them with either hand. Gai Chol Gai Chol 7'0" | C Greenforest Christian Academy | 2023 State GA should continue to become a more popular name this year.
2023 6’9 F/C Dylan Faulkner Dylan Faulkner 6'8" | PF Calhoun | 2023 State GA – Calhoun
Dylan Faulkner Dylan Faulkner 6'8" | PF Calhoun | 2023 State GA ’s array of talents was on full display this weekend as he strung together a couple of impressive outings. In fact, Faulkner’s performance against Dacula was one of the most impressive of any this weekend. He finished with a triple-double tallying 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks. What impressed me most about Faulkner were his guard-like skills at 6’9. Many times Faulkner would catch the ball at the top of the key and attack off the dribble, getting by the defender and finishing above them at the rim. Faulkner’s list of offers should grow in coming months.
2024 6’10 F/C Cole Kirouac Cole Kirouac 6'11" | C Brewster Academy | 2024 State #202 Nation NLG – North Forsyth
Why Cole Kirouac Cole Kirouac 6'11" | C Brewster Academy | 2024 State #202 Nation NLG continues to be under-recruited stumps me to this day. Kirouac’s post game is polished and he knows how to score in a variety of ways around the hoop. He’s also a great passer for a big and had success passing out of double teams and hitting cutters for easy layups. At 6’10, Kirouac’s got the size to be a D1 big and will only continue to add muscle. With a handful of schools courtside, Kirouac put together solid performances throughout the camp and he should begin picking up offers soon.
2024 7’0 C Peyton Marshall Peyton Marshall 7'0" | C Overtime Elite | 2024 State GA – Kell
Peyton Marshall Peyton Marshall 7'0" | C Overtime Elite | 2024 State GA was one of the most talked about guys this weekend and fans crowded in masses to watch the 7-footer dominate the paint. Marshall’s got an old-school game where he dominates defenders in the post and gives the defense no choice but to double. His combination of height and strength made him a matchup nightmare this weekend as he bullied opposing bigs and created space to work on the block. Marshall’s passing ability is another element to his game that’s often overlooked. With a dominant year at Kell, I believe Marshall could enter 5-star conversations.
2024 6’8 C DJ Cain – Cartersville
DJ Cain was a force on the inside for Cartersville this weekend. He’s got good size and a wide frame that helps him to move people out of the way around the basket. He’s got great body control in the post and was able to make defenders pay with his back to the basket. Cain works hard on the boards and was able to grab a lot of offensive rebounds. Cain will have an opportunity to flourish playing alongside talented guards, Jamauri Brice and Romo Pace this season.
