Check out my analysis on some of the top prospects in attendance at the GASO Austin/ Round Rock this weekend! These guys really popped on night one and are continuing to perform at the highest level. Be sure to get familiar with these names ASAP!
Josiah is an athletic freak with his ability to handle the ball and go coast to coast, but also naturally dominate on the interior. His rim protection allows him to anchor his team’s defense and allows his teammates to defend the perimeter and close out even harder knowing Moseley is back there to clean it up. He destroyed opponents spirits with his ability to tip away shots and collect rebounds. However, the most intriguing aspect to his game has to be his handle and the way he moves. He routinely got up and down the court with a live dribble, and got deep into the paint and made his opponents helpless down low. He showed an ability to move his opponents off of their spot when operating with his back to the basket as well! Moseley has all the tools to become an effective wing/ forward prospect at the next level.
Ahmad Abualneel2024 6’4 Plano East High School, TX (Hard Hoops 2024)
Ahmad is a sharp shooting wing with an ability to punish the defense from all three levels of the floor. He is great at using his frame to get into the defense and finish with a soft touch displaying a floater and runner, as well as a nice one to two dribble pull up. His ability to score off the bounce from beyond the arc was very impressive, and he has supreme confidence in his shot from anywhere on the floor. His scoring prowess forced the defense to focus on him, and he calmly made the right decisions and created offense for his teammates. He has continued shooting the ball at a high level, showing off the fact that any offense can be run through his shot making ability. I was very impressed with his all around feel for the game and his ability to affect the game on the defensive end of the ball. Abualneel is a name you must become familiar with.
Jayden Thomas 2024 6’5 Lake Travis High School (Austin Unbreakable)
Jayden is an impressive wing prospect who truly has the ability to play outside in, or inside out depending on the match-up or what his team needs in that situation. I was blown away with his motor and how well he affected the game. He has the necessary athleticism to jump as many times necessary to defend the rim or control a rebound. I love seeing that athleticism in young wing prospects who are normally forced to play a big man role. He is a quick twitch athlete with how well he explodes vertically, and seems to jump his highest every time, no matter if it is on defense or a breakaway dunk. Thomas’s motor is a thing college coaches dream of, be sure to jump on this guy quickly coaches! I would like to see him continue to work on developing his handle and affecting the game out of the triple threat. He has all of the athletic tools to beat anyone in front of him off the bounce, he is an explosive and quick athlete.
Sam is a skilled forward who finishes at a very high level underneath the basket. He displayed great consistency at the rim, and finished well on either side of the basket. I loved watching him manipulate his defenders with his back to the basket. It was fun watching him work on the offensive side of the ball. He is beginning to knock down the three ball from the outside with more consistency, allowing him to blow by the defense and be a true 3 and D threat. I was impressed by his handle out of the triple threat, he was great at getting into the teeth of the defense with an explosive and purposeful two-three dribbles. I was also very impressed by his body control when getting downhill, he knows how to contort his body to get out of the way of his opponents and getting around his defenders.
On the defensive side of the ball he has shown a lot of growth, even in the short time it has been since I saw him last. He is becoming more aware of cutting defenders behind him, and has increased his production on the glass. He actively boxes out his opponents, clearing the way for him to grab uncontested rebounds. I loved the one-two punch that he and Jaxson VandegardeJaxsonVandegarde

have, and I am excited to watch them take over their district over the next two years!
Aydan Perdue 2023 6’5 Katy High School (Big Basketball Academy)
Aydan is a complete player with his ability to score on the offensive end, but also switch and defend any position you need. He showed an ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket but also stretch the floor off the catch and score off the bounce. I was very impressed with how well he did all of the little things like switching onto guards on the perimeter but also dominating down low with his length. He blocked shots as a help side defender and when getting attacked one on one. He rebounded the ball at a high level and went after long rebounds and loose balls to get an extra possession for his team. He showed an ability to play out of the high post and make good decisions with the ball in his hands. He made the right extra swing pass to set up his teammates and never seemed to over dribbled the ball.
