Cameron McNamee, Santa Margarita – Santa Margarita coach Justin Bell made it a point to tell us that McNamee had improved since the end of the high school season and he was right. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard/wing forward played with a ton of confidence and carried himself like a long-time varsity starter. The rising junior finished with a team-high 14 points, including four three-pointers which he hit both off the catch and off the dribble.
Dusty Stromer Dusty Stromer 6'5" | SG Notre Dame | 2023 State #47 Nation CA-S , SO Notre Dame – The Gonzaga-bound guard is an elite jump shooter off the catch or off the bounce and his mid-range jumper is especially effective due to the lift he gets and the balance he has all the way through his release. The Bulldogs are getting a guy who can do a little bit of everything at 6-feet-5, but his ability to space the floor is what will get him on the court sooner rather than later.
JV Brown, Rolling Hills Prep – Everyone who plays against Rolling Hills Prep knows that there’s one guy you must run off the three-point line and that’s JV Brown. Beverly Hills didn’t seem to get that memo as the 6-foot-4 lefty found himself with plenty of time and space to the tune of seven three-pointers en route to an event-high 33 points. When Brown gets his feet set and has a second to prep his shot, it’s going in more often than not.
Peyton Slaughter, Oakwood – Slaughter was a surprise player for us as we didn’t get the chance to see Oakwood last season. The 6-foot-3 rising junior is very efficient at coming off of screens and creating space from defenders for getting his shot off. He can also hurt you with catch-and-shoot and shot-fake to one or two-dribble pull-ups. Slaughter finished with a game-high 25 points, including five three-pointers, in a loss to St. Monica.
Mercy Miller, SO Notre Dame – Miller, who after the game said it’s great to be back in California, started the game off quickly as he buried a handful of smooth-looking triples en route to 14 first-half points. The 6-foot-3 junior-to-be has catch-and-shoot in his arsenal, in addition to a smooth and well lifted pull-up jumper. Miller is wired to score and dropped 22 points with four three-pointers to help the Knights defeat Heritage Christian.
