The Eugene summer league kicked off on Wednesday, June 8th at Springfield High School. The four week session features Churchill, Sheldon, Willamette, North Eugene, Springfield, South Eugene, Thurston, and Marist. This week I focused on Churchill vs North Eugene, Sheldon vs Willamette, and Sheldon vs Marist. Here are the standouts from week 1:
Joey Banry Joey Banry 5'9" | PG North Eugene | 2024 State OR PG 5’8″ 2024 North Eugene
A pure point guard, Banry ran the show for coach Blake Gee’s Highlanders. He showed composure and commanded the offense. He has quick first step and a tight handle on the ball. His court vision is excellent and he did a great job of involving everyone in the offense. Defensively, he has fantastic lateral quickness along with a strong lower body and was able to stay in front of Churchill’s talented back court.
Devon Anderson Devon Anderson 6'2" | SG North Eugene | 2023 OR SG 6’2″ 2023 North Eugene
The 6’2″ Anderson is a phenomenal athlete and scorer for the Highlanders. He is super smooth with the ball and has the ability to decelerate into a devastating Eurostep at the rim. He used the Euro at the rim half a dozen times against Churchill. On the defensive side he is engaged and can lock down guards and swingmen. His help side and transition defense are solid. He had one spectacular block in transition that helped keep North Eugene in the game with Churchill.
Bugsy Jensen Bugsy Jensen 6'1" | CG Churchill | 2023 State OR G 6’2″ 2023 Churchill
One of the top offensive performers of the afternoon. The shifty guard showed a versatile offensive game against North Eugene. He is a creative cutter and has the bounce to finish at the rim against big rim protectors. Off the dribble he has fantastic court vision. On the defensive end Jenson is relentless on ball and is a solid help side defender. His elite athleticism was on display on both sides of the ball.
Cooper Case Cooper Case 6'4" | SF Churchill | 2023 State OR SF 6’4″ 2023 Churchill
A hustle first player, this lanky wing set the tone for new coach Sky Stickney’s Lancers. Offensively, he is a solid ball handler and uses his long frame to get to the rim with minimal dribbles. Case is super aggressive defensively and was on the floor multiple times against North Eugene. He cleaned the glass with a wide wingspan allowing Churchill to get out in transition.
Owen Cramer Owen Cramer 5'10" | PG Sheldon | 2024 State OR G 5’10″ 2024 Sheldon
The Irish point guard shot the ball very well against a couple of aggressive defenses. Cramer also served as a defensive stalwart for Eric Orton’s up and coming team.
Rocco Graziano Rocco Graziano 6'1" | PG Sheldon | 2025 State OR G 6’1″ 2025 Sheldon
This rising sophomore arrived from football practice just in time to show some real grit and perseverance in Sheldon’s back to back single digit wins. He is a crafty passer and plays to get everyone involved in the offense. Graziano has a cool head and makes some impressive pocket type passes. He has a strong body and demonstrated his toughness for the Irish.
Braydon Ace Long Braydon Ace Long 6'0" | CG Willamette | 2024 State OR G 6’0″ 2024 Willamette
One of the better shooters in the southern Willamette valley. Long showed good range on catch and shoot threes. He also made a couple of sneaky cuts against overplaying defenses for easy buckets at the rim.
