He doesn’t shy away from contact at all and he’s not the type of big man that you will find floating around on the perimeter. Instead, he is constantly working in the post, fighting for position on the block and showcasing his ability to dominate games in the paint with his interior scoring, rebounding and shot blocking.
New Life Christian Guard Malachi Travis Malachi Travis 6'2" | CG New Life Christian | 2023 State NC missed the first two days due to injury but fought thru it on the final two days and was able to give his team some good production. He didn’t have his typical scoring numbers, but he made plenty of winning plays for his team, including a game winning bucket in OT in the first round of the playoffs.
Farmville Central HS Guard Jah Short Jah Short 6'4" | CG Farmville Central | 2023 State NC was his usual self, making plenty of plays above the rim, scoring the ball at a nice rate and helping his team take home the Tournament Championship. His scoring and athletic ability was impressive, but we were really impressed with his performance on the defensive end of the court. The combination of lateral quickness and quick hands caused problems for opponents throughout the event, and it helped to force some turnovers that allowed his team to get out into transition.
New Bern HS Wing William Brimmer William Brimmer 6'2" | CG New Bern | 2023 State NC is returning from a knee injury and is still working his way back into shape but overall, he showed some flashes of his old self and was able to help his team in a major way. He scored and rebounded inside at a high rate, played the game with a good amount of energy and brought some leadership for his squad.
Pine Forest HS Wing Jordan Jones Jordan Jones 6'4" | SF Kinston | 2024 State NC used his size and versatility to make a nice impact on games throughout the event, playing a role in helping his team to reach the bracket championship game. He can score from multiple levels, defend guards or big men and has the ability to make plays on both ends of the floor inside the paint.
Goldsboro HS Guard TajMari Joyner provided a nice second scoring option for his team, knocking down some big-time shots from deep in the playoffs and even showing that he can make some plays above the rim. He was responsible for a good amount of the ballhandling responsibilities and didn’t turn the ball over too often, was solid on defense and was productive overall throughout the weekend.
