Continue ReadingThe June high school live periods kicked off this past weekend with tons of events getting underway all over the country, and one of the biggest ones was in the DMV area where DMV Live took place at the famous DeMatha High School in Maryland. The event featured some of the top private schools from Maryland and Virginia, and had hundreds of college coaches in attendance. We’ll have tons of content from the weekend, continuing with the 2024 standouts from the VA schools.
Darren Harris Darren Harris 6'6" | SF Paul VI | 2024 State #59 Nation VA | 6’5” WG | Paul VI
Harris has been an integral part of this talented PVI team for the past few years, and he continues to improve in the right ways and was recently ranked as our #1 prospect in the new 2024 class rankings in VA. At 6’5” Harris has prototypical size on the wing to play at the highest level in college, and what he does translates seamlessly to the next level as he’s one if not the best shooter at his age that I have seen in my 7 years scouting the area. He has a lightning quick release from deep with very deep and effortless range, he moves well off of the ball and sets his feet easily and he’s very consistent from deep, and on top of all of that he has great instincts on both ends and continues to round out his game.
Garrett Sundra Garrett Sundra 6'11" | C Paul VI | 2024 State #148 Nation VA | 6’9” PF | Paul VI
Sundra gets my vote as the most improved player from last year’s DMV Live to this year, and coaches are starting to notice as the offers are beginning to roll in for him. At 6’9” he’s starting to fill out and become stronger and more fluid as an athlete, he runs the floor hard and is a good athlete who can finish above the rim in transition and is a good rebounder on both ends of the floor and he can stretch the floor and shot the ball well from deep throughout the event. He’s developing at a rapid pace and I wouldn’t be surprised if come this time next year he has high majors all over him.
Patrick Ngongba Jr. Patrick Ngongba Jr. 6'10" | C Paul VI | 2024 State #25 Nation VA | 6’10” C | Paul VI
Ngonba recently transferred from Highland School to PVI and despite dealing with some recent injuries he showed consistency as both a low post presence and a guy who can stretch the floor. He’s another player who has developed rapidly as he has improved in his ability to step out and knock down shots, he has quite a few post moves he can go to in the paint and he is patient in the post and makes good reads as a passer as well. He has grown to about 6’10” and while he may not be the most athletic guy he has a great skillset and impacts the game on both ends of the floor.
Isaiah Abraham Isaiah Abraham 6'7" | SG Paul VI | 2024 State #62 Nation VA | 6’5” WF | Paul VI
Another transfer from Highland School, Abraham has perhaps the most upside of anyone on this PVI group, as he has great physical and athletic tools and his skillset continues to improve to where he’s becoming more and more consistent every time he’s on the floor. He’s an athletic freak who can play above the rim and makes plays others simply can’t make, he’s improved a lot on the perimeter as a shot maker and shot creator off the bounce and he has huge potential on the defensive end as a lock down defender. He will be a name coaches will be all over on this team that could compete with anyone in the country.
Ben Hammond Ben Hammond 5'10" | PG Paul VI | 2024 State #143 Nation VA | 5’8” PG | Paul VI
PVI has had a lot of success with small guards in the past, and Hammond is the next one up as he has all the intangibles you like in a small guard who can play at the next level. He’s an excellent on ball defender who guard the length of the floor and has quick hands, he has a lightning quick first step and has great speed in the open floor and he’s improved in his ability to make shots off the bounce and finish in the midrange. He’s a pass first guy who puts pressure on the defense and can make plays on both ends of the floor.
Malcolm Stute | 6’2” CG | Episcopal
Stute is an intriguing prospect for this Episcopal group who had a very good showing at DMV Live 1 and he showed a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor. The 6’2” combo plays with good pace on the ball and makes plays for others, he can knock down shots from deep and in the midrange consistently and he brings it on the defensive end as well.
Wesley Williams Wesley Williams 6'0" | CG Fairfax Christian | 2024 VA | 6’0” PG | Fairfax Christian
Williams transferred to Fairfax Christian from Independence where he was one of the top point guards in NOVA public schools and he is a welcome addition to a team who needs a point guard. He’s highly skilled as he can run the show and get the team into sets, he can knock down shots from deep and in the midrange consistently and he never seems to get sped up or struggle when he’s pressured. He already has a good frame and plays the game the right way and with an extra year he could turn heads with college coaches who are looking for a point guard to run the show.
Blake Neal Blake Neal 6'6" | PF St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2024 State VA | 6’5” WF | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Neal transferred from PVI and reclassified at SSSAS which should be a good move to give him more time to develop his skillset to go along with his physical and athletic tools. The 6’5” wing plays with a great motor on both ends of the floor, he rebounds and can put it on the floor in transition and he can get downhill where he can finish through traffic and above the rim. He has a lot of upside moving forward as he continues to develop and improve.
