Continue ReadingThe June high school live periods kicked off this past weekend with tons of events getting underway all over the country, and one of the biggest ones was in the DMV area where DMV Live took place at the famous DeMatha High School in Maryland. The event featured some of the top private schools from Maryland and Virginia, and had hundreds of college coaches in attendance. We’ll have tons of content from the weekend, continuing with part one of the 2024 standouts from the MD schools.
Drew McKenna Drew McKenna 6'7" | PF Glenelg Country | 2024 #61 Nation MD | 6’7” WF | Glenelg County
McKenna has been on the rise before DMV Live 1 and his performance at the event only solidified that he is one of the top prospects in the area if not the country. He’s grown quite a bit over the last few years and his skillset is supreme for his size, as he’s a big time shot maker that can play on or off the ball and fills it up in a number of different ways. He’s adept at moving off the ball and catching it in stride to rise up and knock down shots, he can put it on the deck going either way to knock down shots off the bounce and he’s a big time athlete who can finish above the rim and is a good rebounder as well.
Patrick Curtin Patrick Curtin 6'2" | SG Glenelg Country | 2025 State MD | 6’1” PG | Glenelg County
Curtin had a good showing in session one, showing a mix of skill and IQ at the lead guard spot and playing a great Robin to McKenna’s Batman. He plays with good pace and changes speeds and directions well to be able to get in the lane and make plays, he can make difficult shots from multiple levels and he has great feel with the ball in his hands as a playmaker. He impacts the game in winning ways and he brings an air of toughness to his team as well.
Luke Bamgboye Luke Bamgboye 6'10" | C AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State #110 Nation AZ | 6’9” PF | Mt. Zion
It was my first time getting to see Bamgboye live after hearing very good things about him, and it’s no doubt that he has a ton of tools that make him a prospect with a very high ceiling moving forward. He has a great skillset offensively for his size with a beautiful jumper both from deep and in the mid-post area that he can rise over defenders and knock down, he’s a fluid athlete who runs the floor and can play above the rim and he has a frame that should fill out with a college nutritionist and weight program. Where he really thrives is on the defensive end, as he has great timing as a shot blocker and led the event in blocked shots by a wide margin.
Andrew Dixon Andrew Dixon 6'1" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2024 State MD | 6’1” PG | Mt. Carmel
Dixon was very impressive in the times I watched and showed that he will have division one coaches watching him quite a bit over the next few years. The 6’1” guard has a good frame and is strong with the ball when he’s pressured, he has good quickness off the bounce and changes speeds and directions well and when he got in the lane he was able to finish in traffic and make plays for others. He is a good shot maker from multiple levels and he showed he’s a good defender who can moves his feet well and stays in help.
Anthony Fontaine | 6’2” CG | The Heights
Fontaine had a great showing when I watched The Heights, showing the ability to make shots on a consistent basis and make plays across the board for his team. He has long arms and is a smooth athlete, he can play on or off the basketball and he knows how to create space and score it from different parts of the floor. He rebounds well for his position and size and he made plays on both ends of the floor.
