The month of June brings team camps across the state of Oklahoma and it also brings a ranking update. On Monday, we unveiled our first batch of rankings for the 2025 class within the state. Throughout the month of June, we’ll be updating our other prospect rankings with an updated 2024 ranking coming out on June 13th. An updated 2023 ranking will be released on June 27th. And as with every ranking update, we also dive into them and put a spotlight on players throughout and what some of their strengths are that have earned their spot within the ranking. In this post, it’s all about that number one spot. Plenty of players believe they have a claim to be the top guy in Oklahoma but only one player can hold on to that top place within the prospect rankings. And before the school season even began, there was no doubt who was going to be in this top spot for 2025 and that was Millwood’s Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6'3" | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK .
Before the season even began, Nickens had already earned several D1 offers from P5 programs across the country. It started with Auburn and continued with Oklahoma State and that was in September. During his freshman season, Nickens also picked up an offer from Ole Miss. Now, things have become much more interesting in the last month as Nickens has joined the Millwood football team and has earned D1 offers for football from North Texas and UTSA. In the latest Prep Redzone rankings, that were also released on Monday, Nickens came in at #15. It’s hard to project what he’ll be on the gridiron because he hasn’t even played a game yet for Millwood’s football team. But there’s no doubt he’s a fantastic athlete.
That was apparent throughout the season as Millwood made a run to the state championship. Every time I got a chance to see Millwood in person, Nickens was one of my favorite players on the floor each time out. And the skill set wasn’t even the main reason. Nickens plays with so much energy and excitement that it’s infectious and even though he was coming off the bench for Millwood, he bought into his role and still brought that same intensity every single time out.
As mentioned, Nickens helped lead the Falcons to the state championship in March and was without a doubt one of the top performers throughout the state tournament and the playoffs in general. With Millwood losing some key pieces off this year’s title team, we’ll go out on a (not very far) limb and say that Nickens will probably crack that starting lineup next season and have his role with the team reach a new level.
Our team also got a chance to see him on the court recently at the Tulsa team camp. And we’ll give the bad with the good. He did not have a good camp shooting the basketball. But that didn’t stop him from having an impact on games. He would use his defensive pressure to create turnovers and translate those to easy buckets. When the shot wasn’t working for him, he would attack the basket and when he gets a lane to the basket, it’s hard to stop him without fouling.
As the director of both Prep Hoops Oklahoma and Prep Redzone Oklahoma, I’m really looking forward to seeing three more years of Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6'3" | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK on the court and on the gridiron. He has the chance to join Mustang 2023 guard Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'3" | SG Mustang | 2023 State OK as not only a top ten overall prospect in basketball and football, but a prospect that starts earning offers from the same school for multiple sports. It’s still early for Nickens on the gridiron, but he’s already there when it comes to basketball. And that’s why he was the easy pick for our top prospect in Monday’s 2025 ranking update.
