And stay tuned for our 2023 ranking update, which will hit the site on June 27th. In this post, we put a spotlight on some of the best forwards in the state’s 2024 class. And at the top, there are plenty to pick from. While Bartlesville guard David Castillo David Castillo 6'1" | PG Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) | 2024 #80 Nation KS has a lock on the top spot in the class, there are several forwards right behind him in that top five.
Dylan Warlick Dylan Warlick 6'6" | SF Edmond North | 2024 State #226 Nation OK – Edmond North – #2 Overall
I mean there is no doubt that Edmond North forward Dylan Warlick Dylan Warlick 6'6" | SF Edmond North | 2024 State #226 Nation OK is incredibly polished already. This past season, Warlick was one of the biggest breakout stars in Oklahoma as he helped carry the Huskies to a state championship. My fellow Prep Hoops writer Sam Duren coined the nickname “Mr Fundamental” for Warlick and that’s such a good description for the young forward who was a double-double machine. Warlick made 20 and 10 look easy throughout the season and he’s only continued that this offseason. What’s more impressive is he’s getting more comfortable with other areas of his game and will go into the next school season as one of the top players in Oklahoma. In a lot of years, Warlick would be the top overall prospect in the state. But Bartlesville’s David Castillo David Castillo 6'1" | PG Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) | 2024 #80 Nation KS has a grip on the top spot. That’s okay, Warlick has the gold ball and will be gunning for at least two more.
Chris Mason Chris Mason 6'6" | PF Victory Christian | 2024 State OK – Union – #3 Overall
I personally saw Union quite a few times during the last season and I always came away impressed with forward Chris Mason Chris Mason 6'6" | PF Victory Christian | 2024 State OK , who comes in as the #3 overall prospect, right behind Edmond North’s Warlick. Union has a very talented 2024 class and they’ll be looked at to lead the Redhawks moving forward after star 2023 forward Trent Pierce Trent Pierce 6'6" | SF Union | 2023 State #73 Nation OK announced he would be attending a prep school in Arizona for his senior season. And when I watched Union last year, it seemed like Mason was the most consistent player for the Redhawks from start to finish. When we look at him as a prospect, we know what we’re going to get and there aren’t very many question marks around his game. Mason is a strong forward in the paint and can finish at the basket and clean up the glass. But he’s also shown the ability to step outside and knock down jumpers. With two good guards around him in Cedric Dixon Cedric Dixon 6'3" | SG Grind Prep | 2024 State #323 Nation OK and Dalen Fuller Dalen Fuller 6'4" | CG Union | 2024 State OK , Mason and Union will be a threat for the next two years.
Luke Gray Luke Gray 6'7" | PF Oklahoma Christian | 2024 State OK – Oklahoma Christian School – #4 Overall
And right behind Warlick and Mason is Luke Gray Luke Gray 6'7" | PF Oklahoma Christian | 2024 State OK from Oklahoma Christian School. And compared to those first two, Gray definitely has the edge in terms of athleticism and the ability to make those “wow” plays and the highlight plays. Gray showcased just that throughout his sophomore season and became one of the better big men in the state. While he has the athletic edge on the other two forwards, he still has work to do to catch up with them in other departments to become more of a complete player but he’s definitely shown flashes over the last few months. Gray is a very athletic forward that has a very high ceiling as a prospect. What he could end up being in two years is scary to think about if he continues to progress. He’s coming off a fantastic showing at OU’s team camp and is already turning heads.
Ethan Wilkerson Ethan Wilkerson 6'7" | PF Madill | 2024 State OK – Silo – #10 Overall
And our fourth and final forward prospect within the top ten for the 2024 class is Ethan Wilkerson Ethan Wilkerson 6'7" | PF Madill | 2024 State OK out of Silo. The small school standout comes in at #10 overall and he first got on our radar earlier this year. When one of our writers watched film of Wilkerson, a few things became obvious. One, he’s more polished than most lengthy prospects his age. And two, there’s a lot of versatility to his game, which college coaches will really like for the next level. Then I personally got a chance to see Wilkerson in person at the state tournament. And while Silo’s state tourney run ended early, Wilkerson passed the eye test in Oklahoma City. Just like with Gray out of OCS, there’s a lot of room for progress in Wilkerson’s game and he should be one of the top players in Class 2A over the next few seasons.
