Coming in seventh on state rankings, 6’7 Caden Stevens Caden Stevens 6'8" | C Mountain Vista | 2023 CO is a box office talent due to his budding perimeter skills and dominant defensive tools. Although still a bit skinny, Stevens is mobile enough to guard 1 through 5 within Colorado while maintaining the fundamental defensive stature to contest shots around the rim without fouling. Although he has been on the receiving end of a few dunks, he is fearless every possession and gets the block more often than not. Versus Smoky Hill, Stevens recorded over five blocks. The young forward is a terror getting downhill, attacking hard closeouts allow him to get effortless dunks or make the simple pass to a corner shooter. Continuing to improve his three point shooting volume should help expand his offensive repetoire.
Tony Niyongabo – Cherokee Trail – Rev Up
At 6’4, Niyongabo is an efficient complementary piece who makes winning plays on both ends. Playing primarily the slasher role, the wing is dependable attacking closeouts with aggression and notable quickness from his first step. When attacking baseline, his lengthy frame allowed him to finish through or around contact once the defense collapsed. Possessing such a notable wingspan, Niyongabo was capable reaching above opposing rebounders on both ends of the glass. Defense is a big calling card for Niyongabo, given his reach and lateral quickness, he has potential to be one of the better multi-positional defenders in the state. Continuing to increase his shooting volume is another key for the wing, where he hit two+ three pointers versus Kent Denver.
Standing right around 6’3, Molavi was a pest on the glass versus bigger frontcourt matchups. Showing consistent grit and relentless tenacity, Molavi never shied away from contact under the rim. He grabbed at least seven rebounds versus Cherokee Trail along with quite a few contests around the rim. The wing showed composure under pressure, consistently taking his time to find the open teammate.
Jamar Mitchell Jamar Mitchell 6'6" | SF Fort Collins | 2023 State CO – Fort Collins – NoCo Elite
Mitchell is a big time energy wing who looks to crash the glass and strike fear into whoever attempts to get a layup on him. At roughly 6’4, Mitchell had arguably the highest motor in the building, instigating on rebounds going both ways all day. Interior defense is another major strength of Mitchell, although a little undersized. The wing’s vertical pop gets him contests and blocks around the rim, proving to make a major difference down low. Continuing to refine Mitchell’s ballhandling versus contact will be essential. Given his ability to attract double teams, his passing vision could be instrumental, however he needs to see the floor for these passing opportunities.
Matias Aldana Matias Aldana 6'3" | SF Frederick | 2023 State CO – Frederick – Anarchy
Standing 6’4, Aldana was deployed as an undersized, yet composed post defender against bigger bodies. His strong frame and fundamental defensive stature allowed no easy looks for big time post scorers in Jamar Mitchell Jamar Mitchell 6'6" | SF Fort Collins | 2023 State CO and Luke Wagstaff Luke Wagstaff 6'7" Fort Collins | 2023 CO . Aldana plays to his strengths, by cutting or fighting for putbacks on the glass, he is determined to put an emphasis on the interior. Although a bigger body, he is not afraid to run the break, where he contributed 6+ fast break points versus Fort Collins.
