Our final prospect rankings were updated earlier this week when we released the 2023 rankings. June was a month full of prospect ranking updates and the final one came out on Monday. You can check out the complete 2023 rankings RIGHT HERE. Throughout this week, we’re going to be going further into the prospects and what has stood out to us over the last six months. We’re excited to get back on the road in July to see more prospects across the state and before you know it, October 1st will be rolling up and practices will begin for high school ball.
In this post, we put a spotlight on the top ten prospects. The top ten took a hit with the exits of a pair of top ten prospects to out of state prep schools. But that did open up things for new prospects to jump into the top ten and we break down what makes each prospect one of the best in the state’s 2023 class.
1) Brandon Garrison Brandon Garrison 6'8" | C Evans | 2023 State #33 Nation OK – Forward – Del City
As Del City made their run to the championship game a few months ago, the Eagles were one of the teams we probably saw the most that season. Which meant we got a great look at forward Brandon Garrison Brandon Garrison 6'8" | C Evans | 2023 State #33 Nation OK and he’s held on to that #1 ranking for the second straight update. For those who have watched him in person, it’s pretty easy to see why he would hold that top spot within the state. He absolutely dominates the defensive end of the floor and is a rebounding machine. The jump that Garrison has made in the last 18 months is what puts him in the top spot. Before his junior season, it was clear that he had the talent to be the top guy in this class. But we wanted to see a little more. And that little more was specifically Garrison turning into a monster and realizing just how dominant he could be. That happened many times during his junior season and it’s continued this offseason. The Del City big man is one of the more skilled and natural big men that has come through Oklahoma in a while.
2) Parker Friedrichsen Parker Friedrichsen 6'4" | SG Bixby | 2023 State #165 Nation OK – Guard – Bixby
Really since he stepped into high school, Bixby guard Parker Friedrichsen Parker Friedrichsen 6'4" | SG Bixby | 2023 State #165 Nation OK has been considered one of the top prospects in the state’s class and he’s been a top five prospect for the last three years. Nothing has changed as we get closer to his senior year. Just like Garrison, Friedrichsen is a legitimate national prospect and recruit and because of that, he’s participating right now in the NBPA Top 100 games. That doesn’t happen very often for Oklahoma prospects but this year, we have two and Friedrichsen is one of them. The Bixby guard was outstanding last season as a junior and was once again one of the top scorers in the state. Despite everyone in 6A knowing the game plan for Bixby coming into the year, he was still able to make it happen and be one of the top scorers yet again. And after the offseason that he’s had, it’s hard to think that anyone will be able to contain him this season. Friedrichsen is an outstanding scorer and over the last few years, the other elements of his game has come along to make him a more complete prospect.
3) Connor Dow Connor Dow 6'6" | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK – Forward – Broken Arrow
Broken Arrow forward Connor Dow Connor Dow 6'6" | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK was already a top ten prospect in our ranking update earlier this year. So the jump he made wasn’t big in term of numbers. But the thought process around him has definitely soared. He went from being a strong prospect with a high ceiling to being in the mix with the absolute best in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. You could start to see him scratching the surface of his potential during the school season with Broken Arrow. While a lot of attention went to 2022 guard Anthony Allen, Dow was a consistent presence for the Tigers when opponents focused on slowing down Allen. Dow has continued that momentum this offseason while playing with Team Griffin. He’s been one of the top performers this offseason and his recruitment is starting to take off and the connection is easy to make there. We’re really looking forward to seeing what Dow looks this winter with a Broken Arrow team that will be looking to contend once again in Class 6A.
4) Terry McMorris Terry McMorris 6'5" | SF Douglass | 2023 State OK – Forward – Del City
Del City is going to not only be one of the top teams in Oklahoma this upcoming season but they should be considered one of the top high school teams in this part of the country. They have two prospects within the top four and plenty more scattered throughout the 2023 Top 60 rankings. Forward Terry McMorris Terry McMorris 6'5" | SF Douglass | 2023 State OK is the second of the Del City duo in this feature and he’s been one of the best players in the state for a few years now. He’s an outstanding wing that can take over a game on both sides of the ball. His length on the defensive end is a nightmare for opposing guards and McMorris can also take on big men and not give up much size. Now, that’ll be different at the next level but McMorris won’t be asked to do some of that. He’ll be able to do what he does best and that’s make plays and do it on both sides of the ball. I was really impressed with McMorris and his game on the offensive side of the ball when I saw Del City three straight days at the Tournament Of Champions. Look for him to once again be one of the best in Oklahoma this season.
5) Jarreth Ingram Jarreth Ingram 6'4" | SF Noah | 2023 State OK – Forward – Memorial
The first of two Memorial Chargers within the top ten is forward Jarreth Ingram Jarreth Ingram 6'4" | SF Noah | 2023 State OK , who went from outside of the top ten to into the top five in this latest ranking update. Ingram was arguably the best sixth man that Oklahoma has seen in quite a few years in a Memorial lineup that was absolutely loaded. Now he heads into his senior year and with the Chargers losing quite a bit to graduation, Ingram will definitely have an expanded role and be looked to as one of the top players in the state. Ingram was a highlight play waiting to happen. While he grabbed headlines, and would go viral on social with his dunks and plays on fast breaks, Ingram has much more to his game than just those highlight plays and he’s done a good job of showcasing that over the last three months. Ingram continues to improve as a shooter and he’s getting more and more comfortable in the post and is turning into a legitimate wing that is just as dangerous in the paint as he is on the perimeter. His continued growth will be something to watch over the next six months.
6) Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'3" | SG Mustang | 2023 State OK – Guard – Mustang
Out of all of the prospects within the top ten, Mustang’s Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'3" | SG Mustang | 2023 State OK might be the only one that does not play college basketball. And for those reading that don’t know Johnson and are wondering why, he’s also a top ten prospect on the football field. Johnson is a rare Oklahoma prospect that is truly considered one of the best in the state in two sports and has been recruited like he is. Now, he does have offers from schools to play both sports and he’s been on several visits this offseason as a basketball and football prospect. But if we had to pick one or the other right now, we’re going with football being the primary sport at the next level. However, Johnson is still one of the best guards in the state and he’s definitely one of the best on-ball defenders that causes absolute nightmares for opponents. He’s definitely in the mold of former Oklahoma standouts Steven Parker and Josh Proctor, who had successful college football careers as defensive backs. Like those two, Johnson is one of the best DB’s in the state and he plays like it on the court.
7) Evan Barber Evan Barber 6'1" | CG Westmoore | 2023 State OK – Guard – Westmoore
Every time we do a ranking release, it doesn’t take very long to figure out that we made a mistake here and there on a prospect to low or a prospect that’s missing all together. For Westmoore guard Evan Barber Evan Barber 6'1" | CG Westmoore | 2023 State OK , he was way too low in our last ranking update. Two things are clear months after that January update. One, Barber is a top ten prospect in the state’s 2023 class. Two, he’s also one of the best shooters in the class and you’d have a hard time finding more than five other players, regardless of class that can absolutely light it up from the perimeter quite like Barber. The Westmoore product, like just about everybody on this list has had a good offseason and is starting to get more attention moving forward. Westmoore also had a good run at team camps in June and Barber once again was one of the top players to watch every time he hit the floor. Rankings are anything but perfect but one thing they’re good for is conversation. And there has been plenty of conversation about Barber over the last six months and we’ve bought in. He’s the real deal.
8) Sebastian Perry Sebastian Perry 6'1" | PG Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK – Guard – Heritage Hall
One guard that we’ve seen quite a bit of over the last year is Heritage Hall’s Sebastian Perry Sebastian Perry 6'1" | PG Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK . The Charger guard was one of the better playmakers in his class last winter and that’s continued this offseason with travel ball and team camps. Similar to other prospects within the top ten, Perry has been on the Prep Hoops radar since his freshman season and he has steadily improved over the last three years. One thing that will be interesting moving forward is this upcoming season with Heritage Hall as fellow 2023 guard CJ Smith CJ Smith 6'7" | SF Putnam City North | 2023 State OK has transferred to Putnam City North and Perry will be the top playmaker in the Heritage Hall backcourt. Perry’s recruitment has also taken off recently and we know of a few local schools that have Perry incredibly high on their boards and his play on the court has backed that up. We’ll definitely keep an eye on how he progresses over the next few months. He’s a borderline top five prospect and is looking to solidify his spot as a top ten guy within this class.
9) Jordan England Jordan England 6'2" | CG Carl Albert | 2023 State OK – Guard – Carl Albert
Carl Albert guard Jordan England Jordan England 6'2" | CG Carl Albert | 2023 State OK was one of my favorite players to watch in person during the month of April and that was after an outstanding junior season for Carl Albert. The Titans in a brutal class that was dominated by Del City and Memorial last year and not much will change this upcoming season but England and the Titans could throw a wrench in everyone’s plans. England is a fantastic two-way player at the guard position and seems just as dangerous on the defensive and offensive end of the floor. England can absolutely fill it up from beyond the perimeter but he also has no problem putting the ball on the floor and driving downhill and finishing at the rim and he can finish with both hands. Then on the defensive side of the ball he can force turnovers, which creates easy fast break buckets. After watching England earlier this spring and knowing the growth that he’s had in the last 12 months, we’re looking forward to seeing more of England this summer and then going into his senior season.
10) Seth Pratt Seth Pratt 6'3" | SG Memorial | 2023 State OK – Guard – Memorial
The second Memorial Charger in the top ten is guard Seth Pratt Seth Pratt 6'3" | SG Memorial | 2023 State OK . Just like Del City, Memorial doesn’t plan on taking any steps back and those two teams will once again be two of the best in the state, regardless of class. Pratt is one of the prospects that we cannot wait to see during his senior season to see how his game evolves as a guard. Memorial had a plethora of guards during their championship run but now Pratt will get his opportunity to be the lead guard in the Memorial offense. As a sophomore and junior, Pratt was definitely used primarily as their shooter and he will still be one of the top shooters in Oklahoma this season. But with Ty Frierson graduating, the Chargers will definitely need more playmaking and leadership in the backcourt and Pratt should be ready to step into that role. He’s been a huge key to their run over the last two seasons but he could very well become the leader of the Chargers this upcoming season. Not to mention he’s had a strong offseason and looks like he’s going in that direction.
