Our final prospect rankings were updated earlier this week when we released the 2023 rankings. June was a month full of prospect ranking updates and the final one came out on Monday. You can check out the complete 2023 rankings RIGHT HERE. Throughout this week, we’re going to be going further into the prospects and what has stood out to us over the last six months. We’re excited to get back on the road in July to see more prospects across the state and before you know it, October 1st will be rolling up and practices will begin for high school ball. In this post, we put a spotlight on five prospects who jumped up the recent ranking update. Some made significant leaps while others just moved into a new neighborhood, going from strong prospect to one of the elite in the class.

(Ranked #3 Overall)
Broken Arrow forward Connor Dow Connor Dow 6'6" | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK was already a top ten prospect in our ranking update earlier this year. So the jump he made wasn’t big in term of numbers. But the thought process around him has definitely soared. He went from being a strong prospect with a high ceiling to being in the mix with the absolute best in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. You could start to see him scratching the surface of his potential during the school season with Broken Arrow. While a lot of attention went to 2022 guard Anthony Allen, Dow was a consistent presence for the Tigers when opponents focused on slowing down Allen. Dow has continued that momentum this offseason while playing with Team Griffin. He’s been one of the top performers this offseason and his recruitment is starting to take off and the connection is easy to make there. We’re really looking forward to seeing what Dow looks this winter with a Broken Arrow team that will be looking to contend once again in Class 6A.

Westmoore | 2023

– Guard – Westmoore
(Ranked #7 Overall)
Every time we do a ranking release, it doesn’t take very long to figure out that we made a mistake here and there on a prospect to low or a prospect that’s missing all together. For Westmoore guard Evan Barber Evan Barber 6'1" | CG Westmoore | 2023 State OK , he was way too low in our last ranking update. Two things are clear months after that January update. One, Barber is a top ten prospect in the state’s 2023 class. Two, he’s also one of the best shooters in the class and you’d have a hard time finding more than five other players, regardless of class that can absolutely light it up from the perimeter quite like Barber. The Westmoore product, like just about everybody on this list has had a good offseason and is starting to get more attention moving forward. Westmoore also had a good run at team camps in June and Barber once again was one of the top players to watch every time he hit the floor. Rankings are anything but perfect but one thing they’re good for is conversation. And there has been plenty of conversation about Barber over the last six months and we’ve bought in. He’s the real deal.

Del City | 2023

– Guard – Del City
(Ranked #13 Overall)
The first of several prospects who have had outstanding offseasons and have played incredibly well in Prep Hoops Circuit events is Del City guard Percy Green Percy Green 6'4" | SF Del City | 2023 State OK . While playing with the Oklahoma Impact, Green has been one of the top performers among the 17U teams. Green has shown a great balance in his game offensively, knocking down shots from the perimeter and then having no problems getting to the basket at will and finishing. Green’s length is definitely a positive thing for him as a prospect as he gives Del City yet another long wing that can do a variety of things on both sides of the ball. Green isn’t the only Del City Eagle on this list and as of right now, it’s hard to see any other team knocking off the Eagles this winter in Class 5A. He had a strong junior season but has just continued to get better over the last several months. He’s going to give the Eagles more scoring on the perimeter and then his length on defense, combined with the other guards and wings is going to be a real problem for opponents.
Carter Hjelmstad

Edmond Memorial | 2023

OK
– Forward – Edmond Memorial
(Ranked #15 Overall)
The Prep Hoops Circuit began in late March and early April and we’ve seen some fantastic basketball being played by Oklahoma prospects. One of the very first standouts on the Circuit that I had a chance to watch and cover was Edmond Memorial forward Carter Hjelmstad Carter Hjelmstad 6'5" | SF Edmond Memorial | 2023 State OK . In the very first tournament in Oklahoma City, Hjelmstad was one of the top performers and was outstanding on both sides of the ball. He’s continued to have a great offseason and we’re looking forward to seeing him again in Oklahoma City this offseason. It’s going to be fun for me personally to see how much Hjelmstad’s game has grown over the last few months as his travel team ROGUE will be one of the top teams in attendance. We can’t help but look ahead to what he’ll be this winter with Edmond Memorial. With JV Seat graduating, that definitely opens things up for Hjelmstad to have a much bigger role on the offensive side of the ball. We like his game and he’s earned his jump in the recent ranking update. Don’t be surprised if he’s a top performer again this weekend.

(Ranked #27 Overall)
We mentioned Percy Green Percy Green 6'4" | SF Del City | 2023 State OK not being the only Del City Eagle on this list as Jamouri McCalister Jamouri McCalister 6'2" | SG Del City | 2023 State OK has absolutely rocketed up the rankings and honestly, his current rank might even be a little too low. Anytime we do the rankings, you always find prospects after the fact that you wish you could have slid up a little higher and this time around, we’re looking at McAlister. because this Del City guard has been lights out this offseason. He definitely has the potential to go from being a role player last year to a lead guard for the Eagles this winter as they try to win another state championship. The Eagles have plenty of size, but one thing that hurt them last season was guard play and going against a team like Memorial, who had a few guards who could go. Having a guard like McAlister returning and he’s sure to go into his senior year with confidence after the offseason he had will allow him to be more of a floor general. And there are few prospects that I’ve seen this offseason that can absolutely fill it up quite like McAlister.
