Later in the week I will focus on the 16U Division, but tonight here were some of the 17U standouts including some of Washington’s top PG’s:
Maleek Arington Maleek Arington 6'3" | PG Auburn | 2022 State WA Auburn/WA (Seattle Stars 17U)
The Idaho State commit keeps getting better. He has great size and strength with unusually long arms. He plays with an elite feel and throws his team open often, making some incredible passes. He can hit the deep-3 and he has improved his athleticism and defense in the last year.
Jordan Clark Jordan Clark 6'1" | PG Seattle Christian | 2023 State WA Seattle Christian/WA (ECBA Baskett 2023)
The top junior ’pure PG’ at the event. He has a super high feel for the game and threads the needle better then most. He can sling it with his left or right hand on a rope. He also has some shift with a tight handle and gets to the basket. His 3-ball has vastly improved since last year and he just makes plays for his team.
Brody Rowbury C 6’11 2022 Sunrise Christian/KS (Seattle Stars 17)
One of my favorite stories of the year is how the 6’11 big man transformed his body in the last year. He went to a post grad at Sunrise Christian via a HS in Idaho. He lost a ton of weight and he is moving more nimble and can actually alley-oop and moves way better in space. He still kept his soft hands and feathery touch from beyond the three point line. He rebounds, blocks shots and has a huge IQ. He is heading to D1 SE Louisiana next year and should have a nice impact there.
Jacey Canalin Jacey Canalin 5'7" | PG Wells | 2024 State OR Ida B Wells/OR (DENY Basketball 2023 National)
A pure PG has a quick burst to get to the basket with his first step. He is undersized but the ball is on a strong for him and he can thread the needle. He can pull-up off the dribble and is tough on the ball defensively. He is ranked #15 in Oregon from his class and you can see why.
Grant Kepley Grant Kepley 6'4" | CG North Creek | 2023 State WA Auburn/WA (ECBA Baskett 2023)
A bigger combo two guard has a lot of shift in his handle. He gets downhill with his size, craftiness and burst. He is very smart off the pick and roll game and will pull-up from mid-range. He is a streaky 3pt shooter but is definitely capable and makes plays for others consistently.
Riley Gehring PF 6’5 2023 Rosalia/WA (Catch Spokane 2023 Fury)
A long and lean power forward runs the floor, he scores it efficiently and will challenge shots at the rim. He had one unreal block where he met a top player at the rim to block his shot. He needs to fill in but has a nice touch around the rim.
Rayvon Adams PF 6’6 2024 North Thurston/WA (Team Anderson Elite 2023) (Pictured)
A top notch rebounder and an intriguing long term prospect. He has a nice stroke on his free throws and he can rip through off the bounce. He will create his own shot in the lane but he makes his money on the glass. He grabs the ball at its highest point and gets off the floor easy. Once he fills in he will be even harder to contain.
Max Holliman PF 6’4 2023 West Seattle/WA (ECBA Baskett 2023)
One of the highest motors at the event. He is undersized but has a massive wingspan and aggressive play to rebound the ball in and out of his area to give his team extra possessions. He gets in stance on the perimeter to defend in space but is also strong enough to fight bigger post players with his sturdy frame/build. He will slash to the basket and make an open three when give space and time.
Parker Baumann Parker Baumann 6'5" | CG Shorecrest | 2023 State WA Shorecoast/WA (BDH 2023 Elite)
A jack of all trades guard does many things well. He can get to the basket with plus size and a nice handle. He can pull-up off the dribble and hit catch perimeter jumpers. He plays many positions and seems to play the right way. He makes good decisions with the ball and has a big IQ.
