With players from Washington, Oregon, and Idaho in the West Coast Clash, there was plenty of talent to watch. Day 1 didn’t disappoint; these players from the 16U division stood out from the pack.
Macklin Gray – 6’4 SF – Global Basketball Club/Juanita (Pictured)
Gray is someone to keep an eye out for in the Class of 2024. He has size, athleticism, and skill. He rebounded well on both ends, played the passing lanes, and showed he can score both inside and out. He has the frame of a wing but with improved ball-handling, he has a chance to be special as a “big guard.”
Drew Colner – 5’10 SG – Progress Elite/Central Catholic
You do not want to help off Colner. The sniper was on fire from three. With a quick trigger and the IQ needed to be successful moving without the ball, he was one of the best shooters on the day. In his second game of the day, he hit three from behind the arc in the second half to try and bring his team back.
Khaleb Chisolm (’25) – 5’9 PG – Special Ops/Lakes
Chisolm was wherever he wanted to be today. Defenders didn’t stand a chance against the freshman lefty as he was comfortable with both hands. He has a tight handle and changes directions without losing speed. Plenty of paint touches throughout the game provided him with looks from three down the stretch.
Lane Johnson – 6’1 SG/SF – NHC Kelly/Adna
Johnson had a great first game today. His strength and body control were on full display as he led his team to a huge morning win with 17 points. Almost all of his points were in the paint as he attacked downhill when he had the ball in his hands and crashed the offensive glass when he was off the ball.
Denali Hatcher – 5’9 PG – Global Basketball Club/Liberty
The best point guard on the day had to be Hatcher. He was the coach on the floor for Global. In the last game of the day, he spent the first half commanding the offense and getting his teammates involved. He was getting paint touches, playing off two feet, and making the right decisions. In the second half, he took over and had 15 of his 17 points to close out the win.
