Perkins Leads Impressive Bears
Landon could be a sneaky-good team next season. Tyler Perkins Tyler Perkins 6'4" | SG Landon | 2023 State #268 Nation MD is trending up after his excellent all-around performance vs. a tough Bulldogs squad. The dynamic lefty, who posted a double-double, is poised for a productive senior campaign.
Frankie Mannino Frankie Mannino 6'4" | SF Landon | 2025 State MD continues to play good basketball as well. The 2025 wing, who flirted with a double-double, was consistently aggressive. Mannino plays a mature brand of basketball. He is vocal and impacts the game in a myriad of ways.
The X-Factor for the Bears could be 2026 guard Ube Zaid. He is quick like a cat and fearless. Zaid took a couple of charges and hit multiple shots.
Lathrop Emerging for the Cavs
Owen Lathrop Owen Lathrop 6'2" | SG WT Woodson | 2023 VA , who plays for the NOVA Cavs and now the Woodson Cavs after transferring from SSSAS, is a stock-riser to know in the local 2023 class. Lathrop is a solid all-around player who scores and creates for others. He posted 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in a win over Sandy Spring.
Sean Donovan continues to progress for the Cavs. The versatile forward, who is in great physical condition, nearly double-doubled on Tuesday. Donovan looks the part and has a good skill base with potential.
Kaylen Chilton was one of the breakout performers from Tuesday’s action. The class of 2026 guard exhibits supreme confidence and significant upside. Chilton drilled 5 of 10 treys on his way to 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Spalding vs. McNamara Doesn’t Disappoint
The BCL vs. WCAC matchup between Spalding and McNamara was an instant classic. Malik Washington Malik Washington 6'5" | SF Archbishop Spalding | 2025 MD was the alpha dog on the court. He posted 15 points and 8 rebounds to spearhead an impressive comeback.
Kam Carter had some bright moments for the Cavs during Tuesday’s contest. He scored at all three levels, touched the paint frequently, and made plays for others. Carter has a chance to become a household name locally down the road.
Hawks Still Formidable
It looks like rising senior Greg Jones Greg Jones 6'5" | SF Hayfield | 2023 State #258 Nation VA will be handling the ball quite a bit for Hayfield next season. He was outstanding for his team during their win over Flint Hill. Jones led the team in scoring, but made clutch plays on both ends and regularly set others up for open shots.
Andy Ramirez is expected to step into a bigger role next season. The rangy 2023 wing is a responsible team defender who helps his team control the glass.
Hayfield fans should be excited about the potential of rising freshman Phoenix Card. He is a lefty who can shoot the three but is also effective at attacking closeouts. Card looks like he isn’t done growing yet either. It will be fun watching him mature in the upcoming years.
