I focused on Varsity and JV Gold Boys divisions and I ended up watching 20+ teams.
Here were some of the 2023 small forward standouts from the weekend:
Arman Madi Arman Madi 6'7" | SF Brophy | 2023 State AZ Brophy Prep (Firestorm Elite)
A good sized wing with deep range. He can put the ball on the floor and he is very crafty taking the ball to the rim and can spin off his man to score it. He is a very good passer and made a few incredible left hand passes in stride. He rebounds well for position and will score on put backs.
Trey Brown Trey Brown 6'7" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2023 State AZ Phhoenix Prep (AZ Select Capp)
A bigger wing with guard skills impressed this weekend. He was hitting shots from all three levels and his skill looked more polished. He hit threes, got to the rim with his good size and on the glass for put backs. He has good court vision and defends multiple positions.
Carter Gittens Carter Gittens 6'5" | SF Sunrise Mountain | 2023 State AZ Sunrise Mountain (Factory)
An athletic wing forward seemed to defend every position on the court. His strength and build has come in and he uses it and his bounce to get downhill and will flush it down or score through contact. He has a crisp mid-range pull-up and a catch-3. He is slowly becoming more consistent with it. He rebounds and blocks many shots per game impressively for his size.
Ky Green Ky Green 6'6" | SF Liberty | 2023 State AZ Liberty (Factory)
A 3 and D type hit shots from the perimeter and ran the break per usual. He is a way above the rim athlete and caught some jaw dropping lobs. He is best when he straight line drives to the rim and catching and shooting from the arc. He will defend many positions when he is engaged.
Erenzo Scroggins Erenzo Scroggins 6'4" | SF AZ Compass Prep Black | 2023 State AZ McClintock (Firestorm Elite)
A powerfully built point forward type is an exciting watch. He uses his explosive leaping ability and strength to attack the rim and he created a few shots from himself as well. He can step back on his defender and will score many of his points on dunks and/or offensive rebounds.
Donovan Quinn Donovan Quinn 6'4" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2023 State AZ Phhoenix Prep (AZ Select Tom) (Pictured)
A Tempe high school transfer wing forward has real length and is a quick twitch athlete. The faster the game goes, the tougher he is to stop. Once the game slows down he can improve his half court game but his help and on-ball defense show promise. He also gets on the glass with a good motor.
Torian Gant SF 6’2 Phhoenix Prep (AZ Select Tom)
Another former Tempe HS wing is the younger brother of stud hooper/football QB Emmanuel Gant. He showed some good moments this weekend and he is very athletic in transition and will defend. He can get downhill and makes energy plays.
Brooklyn Swindle SF 6’3 Desert Vista (Team Phoenix)
A skilled wing forward can shoot it from mid to the three point line. He can pull-up and play off the catch. He should get the opportunity to play varsity this upcoming season and showcase what he can do. He shows some upside and he could have a breakout year.
