The title of this National Event alone should tell you the type of talent that walked into the building this weekend. The Space City Collision had everything you need. Great Shooters, Amazing leapers, Floor Generals. It was a buffet of everything you like talent wise. I also saw some standout performers who stock rose from the last time I had seen them perform. Intangibles was on display this weekend. The little things, diving on the floor for loose balls, jumping into the crowd to save a bad pass or to force a turnover. Again, the buffet was on display. Do you need gravy with your biscuit? Time to dive into the Outstanding Performers.
Jae’Coby Osborne Jae’Coby Osborne 6'6" | SF Bella Vista Prep | 2024 State #241 Nation AZ | G | 2024 | Fresno Flyers
Ranked #18 in our Class of 2024 rankings, Osborne provides everything you need from basketball player on the floor. He has size standing at 6’5, he is long, and he is active. Osborne does it all on the court. This is back-to-back tournaments for Osborne where he has shown me that when he asserts himself there is NOTHING no one can do. When he begins to “apply pressure” it raises the level of his teammates play and changes the course of the game. As I’m watching the game, the Flyers are only up three and the other team is going on a run. Osborne begins his stellar play with his third and fourth triple of the game to go along with four dimes, five rebounds a couple of dives on the floor and his team now up fifteen. His ability to be everything his team needed in those moments separates him from the rest of the pack. I have not even gotten into his ability to attack the basket and finish over top of his opponents. Osborne finished off his Day 1 with multiple dunks and an undefeated day for his team. When your best player is diving on the floor for loose balls at half court the whole team must follow suit. Osborne is the MVP of the Space City Collision.
Devin Brown | G | 2024 | Team Takeover
Brown came with it this weekend at the Space City Collision. He is another one of those long, lanky, athletic prospects who gets it done on both ends of the floor. Brown showed off a high-level skillset this weekend. He consistently knocked down the three ball, he got to the basket at will using both hands, and he distributed to open teammates showing off his play making ability. Brown is one of my top five players in this division. I loved how with all the skills he possesses on the offensive end; he was not selfish. Many times, on fastbreak opportunities he could have just leaped over his opponent or finished through the contact for the AND1 (which he did many times all weekend). Instead, he attacked hard drew the defense in and passed it off to his teammate. Every time Brown scored or dished for a score, he was back down in a defensive stance ready to guard whoever had the ball. Brown displayed his all-around game this weekend. Scoring on all three levels and playing defense at a high level.
Jaiden Newsome | F | 2025 | North Hustle National Team
Newsome was a sleeper to me. He came in and just did his job, yet he did his job and more. The boards were Newsome’s as I watched him grab board after board. Many of which were putbacks that kept his team in the game. Newsome then began to show off his athleticism in the open court. I remember after his first fast break jam saying to myself, I did not see that coming. He then began to get out in the open court more which got his team back into the game after being down ten at this point. Newsome was a work horse for the North Hustle National Team providing instant energy from the moment he stepped on the court.
Jude Hill | G | 2024 | Team Takeover
Though his teammate may have been the more athletically appealing player. Hill GOT THE JOB DONE. The combination of himself and his aforementioned teammate Devin Brown reminded me so much of the Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kris Middleton. Jude Hill being Kris Middleton. Same with the Milwaukee Bucks Giannis is going to be Giannis but when Kris Middleton is engaged than the Bucks are a dangerous team. Hill finished the game with thirty points knocking down pull up jumper after pull up jumper along with multiple three pointers. Hill thrived off the trust his teammate Devin Brown gave him on drive and kicks. Hill converted on almost every opportunity that was presented to him. Hill is slated to have a big summer for Team Takeover.
Hunter-mack Nelms | G | 2024 | DC Kings Denton 2025-1
As soon as I walked in Hunter-mack Nelms energy was on full display. He kept many basketballs alive for the DC Kings. At one point he grabbed four straight rebounds that eventually led to a basket for his DC Kings squad. With all the energy that he brought to the table, Nelms displayed other aspects of his game that help the DC Kings raise their lead to thirty. Literally after grabbing four straight rebounds that led to a basket for the DC Kings. Nelms came right back own the very next play and knocked down a smooth stroking three pointer that hit nothing but the nylon. Immediately after knocking down the wing three, he was in the press his coach called up. He jumped into the passing lane, another steal and big finish for Nelms. He made his presence known.
