Continue ReadingOn Monday we highlighted five freshmen that are having a breakout spring and garnering statewide attention. Now, we will turn our attention to the sophomore class and take a look at some stock risers. These are prospects who have jumped onto some recruiting lists, caught the attention of scouts around the state, or simply outplayed previous expectations. Let’s dive on in to six sophomore spring stock-risers.
Kanon Catchings Kanon Catchings 6'8" | PF Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #31 Nation GA (Brownsburg H.S. 2024/Indy Heat EYBL 2024): Catchings is already a Top 20 prospect according to Prep Hoops Indiana, but will likely move into that 5-10 range in our next update. He has solidified himself as a legitimate high-major type prospect as a 6’5″ shooter with athleticism to match. Really, really interesting prospect. Check him out this weekend at EYBL Session III in Louisville.
David Cundiff David Cundiff 6'0" | PG Munster | 2024 State IN (Munster H.S. 2024/Team GRIII Elite 2024): High IQ 6’0″ point guard who has played very well on the Prep Hoops Circuit this spring. Cudniff is a playmaker in the backcourt who creates his own shot off of the dribble, can make tough three’s off of the bounce, and finds open teammates on the way to the basket.
Josiah Gustin Josiah Gustin 6'7" | PF Pendleton Heights | 2024 State IN (Pendleton Heights H.S. 2024/Grand Park Premier UAA 2024): There aren’t many Class of 2024 prospects who have progressed since entering high school like this 6’7″ forward. After entering as a 6’5″ long freshman, Gustin has managed to grow a couple of inches, get stronger, and develop his skill set. He can now make face up jumpers, rebound his area consistently, and play above the rim on both sides of the floor. Love his upside.
Jaelyn Johnson Jaelyn Johnson 6'5" | PF Portage | 2024 State IN (Portage H.S. 2024/94 Feet Elite 2024): 6’5″ forward continues to physically develop into a versatile two-way prospect. Johnson is physical enough to score around the basket while flashing some skill level away from the hoop. Has had some big games this spring playing with 94 Feet Elite on the NY2LA circuit.
Rasauun Johnson Rasauun Johnson 6'2" | SG Mishawaka | 2024 State IN (Mishawaka H.S. 2024/5Star 2024): Johnson has really turned some heads this spring with his strong play on the Adidas Gold Gauntlet with a successful 5Star 2024 group. The 6’3″ wing has good size on the perimeter and can create offense in a variety of different ways. Very good defender as well. College programs should go ahead and get eyes on Johnson as he keeps improving.
Cam Reich Cam Reich 6'1" | SG Speedway | 2024 State IN (Brownsburg H.S. 2024/EG10 2024): Talented guard with a knack for scoring the basketball. Reich is strong, plays through contact off of the bounce, and creates his own shot well from all three levels. He has the strength to finish around the basket when he drives it along with a nice outside shooting stroke. Has been a big part of EG10’s success on the Prep Hoops Circuit this spring.
