Continue ReadingThe annual Bill Hensley Run N Slam has come and gone and most of the top teams in the Midwest area took over Fort Wayne, Indiana in this past weekend. I was only able to watch games going on at Turnstone and Sport One/Parkview Fieldhouse but still saw a ton of top notch performances. With that said, let us take a look at the forwards that stood out for me
Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN (GPP 2024 Red) – Benter is a talented player that brings some legit size on the wing. First time I was able to see Benter this AAU season and right away noticed how good of feel he has for the game. Always has his hands ready to fire off a deep ball and does a good job using his frame to create space. Recruitment seems like it is starting to take off, which is no shocker.
Andy Spoelman Andy Spoelman 6'6" | PF Illiana Christian | 2024 State IN (Team GRIII 16u Elite) – Spoelman is a skilled and versatile forward. Showed some real solid defense at times and has a pretty capable 15ft jumper on the offensive end. Rebounds very well but maybe needs to get just a little bit stronger. A guy to keep an eye on in the Northern Indiana area.
Nick Richart Nick Richart 6'9" | PF Zionsville | 2023 State IN (Indiana Elite 17u) – Richart was one of the smoothest bigs I saw all weekend. Once again showed off that beautiful footwork and was finished through contact pretty well. Want him to just be a little bit tougher and quicker more often because with his skill he could really dominate if he wanted to. Expect some offers for him to rolling in soon.
JaQualon Roberts JaQualon Roberts 6'8" | PF Bloomington North | 2023 State IN (Indiana Elite 17u) – Roberts has himself a really good weekend. Played real fast and made a ton of plays around the basket. Was at his best in transition this weekend and once he found a lane, he finished so strong at the rim. Seems to be getting a lot smarter about making the right plays at the right times. Roberts is becoming a complete player the more times I watch him.
Xavier Booker Xavier Booker 6'11" | PF Cathedral | 2023 State #4 Nation IN (George Hill All Indy 17u) – Booker can make a real argument as to being the best player on the floor anytime this past weekend. The versatile big was so dominant anytime I watched him and was mixing it up inside and out. First time I have seen Booker this AAU season and to me he just looked a lot more free and was doing everything at a high level. Not hard to see why he is one of the most recruited players in the nation.
Kanon Catchings Kanon Catchings 6'8" | PF Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #31 Nation GA (Indy Heat 16u) – Catchings is a wing that people are really starting to take notice of. Has a long, athletic build and can really light it up form behind the arc. Thought he did a better job playing off the dribble and was not just that catch and shoot player I saw at EYBL. Catchings is a player that can get hot at any moment and really make a defense pay. Sooner or later, offers are going to start racking up on his end.
Trent Sisley Trent Sisley 6'8" | PF Heritage Hills | 2025 State #47 Nation IN (Indy Heat 16u) – No question about it, Sisely is one of the best underclassmen we have in the state. Was so much better at scoring the ball than what I saw at EYBL and was just so aggressive on both ends. He is playing up a grade right now but with his talent he could easily play up with the 2023’s if he wanted to. Only has a couple of offers right now but more schools are starting to take a major interest in this talented forward. This guy can be so deadly on the offensive end.
Mason Jones Mason Jones 6'7" | PF Valparaiso | 2023 State IN (Team GRIII 17u Elite) – Jones is a physical, aggressive forward that plays with one of the highest motors I have seen from a power forward. Was really active on the glass here and was playing well through contact. Can show off a little versatility from time to time, mixing it up inside and out. He is a guy that can really get out and run and will always try to give everything he has on the floor.
