It continued at the Premier Shootout in Auburn. The seven-court setup at the Fieldhouse was filled with talent, here’s five guys who improved their stock:
Trevontay Smith, 6’0, PG/SG, EBC, Yelm, C/O 2023
After seeing Trevontay play multiple times this spring, he’s done a lot of things well as a spark plug combo guard and continues to get better with time. He fits in extremely well when the game is getting fast-paced and its a tough task for opposing guards to match his quickness in transition. He’s a three-sport athlete who loves to get out and run on the break and is crafty when making reads on the fly. He is also a strong off-ball guy who can step outside and hit jumpers or use his shiftiness to blow by defenders and get into the paint to make plays. He catches a lot of ballhandlers lacking on the defensive side too, causing turnovers in the backcourt regularly at the Shootout.
Tony Gil-Slack, 6’1, Guard/Wing, Renton 17U Red, Rainer Beach, C/O 2024
An interesting prospect who definitely made an impression over the weekend was Tony Gil-Slack. He was very much under the radar playing JV last season for a guard-heavy Rainer Beach lineup. He should be a name to look to make some strides going into his junior year as a strong and physical rebounding guard who plays with effort. He has a strong upper-body build paired with leaping capabilities that allow him to be a guard who can crash the glass and play inside. He was guarding some of Lakewood’s best perimeter scorers when I saw him on Day 1.
Tariq Hill, 6’1, PG/SG, Renton 17U Red, Kent-Meridian, C/O 2023
Tariq stood out to me as a smooth PG who showed skills as a lead playmaker and scorer. He was locked in on Day 1. Off the bounce, he is a nice threat in the mid range and gets to the free throw line often. He has solid length from the guard spot with excellent reach when attacking the basket and uses it well on the defensive end. He seems like the type of kid who will be a sleeper as a senior next year with the ability to be a nightly double-digit scoring threat.
Sayerr Senghore, 6’5, Forward, EBC, Woodinville, C/O 2022
I really liked what I saw from Senghore during the tournament as well as throughout his senior year at Woodinville. He is a bit of a position-less player but has a good overall skillset. Defensively, he is always a challenge to go up against do to his switching ability. He is the ultimate glue guy who can bring versatility to the floor with his activity by grabbing boards, loose balls, running the floor and cleaning up the offensive glass in particular. He has noticeably put on some muscle to his long frame, and to me that looked to help him take hits to the body when battling inside. He is a finisher inside and I believe he’s a capable jump-shooter, but more consistency in that department would make him even more desirable.
Mario Clark, 6’2, Guard/Wing, EBC, Rainer Beach, C/O 2023
Another player putting himself more on the radar over the weekend, Mario displayed some upside as a two-way wing. He has great off-ball movement and a good looking release on his 3-point shot. He’s played minutes on big stages with Rainer Beach and looked a lot more seasoned at the Shootout. He is a plus-athlete who isn’t afraid to hit the floor hard and hustles on both ends.
