The Prep Hoops Circuit is winding down with a few more events across the country. Coming up in July, Oklahoma City will host another event and then we’ll close things out in Dallas a few weeks later. June is right around the corner and our next ranking update will take place then. We’ve seen plenty of talented players play on our circuit this offseason and we take a look at some of the prospects who have done incredibly well over the last few months. In this post, we take a look at the 2023 stock risers. Stay tuned over the next few days for a look at the 2024 and 2025 stock risers.
Carter Hjelmstad Carter Hjelmstad 6'5" | SF Edmond Memorial | 2023 State OK – Forward – Edmond Memorial (ROGUE)
Our first stock riser from the 2023 class only played in one Circuit tournament to get our attention and that was right from the start. Edmond Memorial forward Carter Hjelmstad Carter Hjelmstad 6'5" | SF Edmond Memorial | 2023 State OK was dominant in the early April tournament in Oklahoma City while playing with ROGUE. This team was one of the more complete teams that I’ve seen while covering tournaments this offseason but Hjelmstad definitely stood out that weekend. He did a little bit of everything on the offensive side of the ball and one of the things that impressed us the most was his ability to finish with either hand. It seemed like he was just as comfortable going to his left as he was going to the right. That certainly caught our attention and despite only playing in one Circuit tournament that I got a chance to see in person, Hjelmstad has earned his spot on this list with his play.
Cole Allen Cole Allen 6'5" | SG McAlester | 2023 State OK – Forward – Pittsburg (Built Different By Pro Skills)
From a forward who only played in one Circuit tournament to another who has played in just about everyone in the area, we go to Pittsburg forward Cole Allen Cole Allen 6'5" | SG McAlester | 2023 State OK . I’ve gotten a chance to see Allen play in three tournaments this offseason and each time I come away liking a new aspect of his game. In the first tournament, he was off the charts with his ability to light it up from beyond the arc. But I was curious what else he had in his bag when it came to the offensive end. And he was able to showcase those skills throughout the rest of the tournaments. Allen could drive to the basket and finish through contact. He also had a dangerous pull up jumper that most of the time left defenders on their heels with no time to recover. Allen has the size and skills to be a ’23 hidden gem and he’s proven he belongs over the last few months.
James Reveles – Guard – El Reno (Oklahoma Runners)
One of the more consistent players throughout the last few months has been El Reno standout James Reveles while playing with the Oklahoma Runners. They’ve played in multiple PH Circuit events and have also played in a few other tournaments and it seems like every time Reveles is on the floor, he’s dropping AT LEAST 20 points and has dropped 30+ points on several occasions this offseason. Reveles is a bigger guard that might be more of a forward prospect when it comes down to his recruitment. But not only have I seen Reveles had a tremendous showing this offseason but several other writers for our network have seen Reveles and have featured him throughout the last few months. In addition to Reveles, El Reno has some serious talent returning this year and they’ll once again be in the mix.
Malachi Lee Malachi Lee 6'3" | SF Moore | 2023 State OK – Forward – Moore (Team Movement)
Yet another forward that rose his stock immediately was Moore forward Malachi Lee Malachi Lee 6'3" | SF Moore | 2023 State OK while he was playing with Team Movement. Lee was a standout in the first tournament in early April and earned All Tourney honors while Team Movement was one of the better teams in attendance. That team had several guards that really stood out as well but the consistent force was Lee in the paint. Whether it was the offensive or defensive glass, Lee was getting just about every rebound and loose ball and feeding the guards in transition for easy buckets. Lee was an energizer bunny throughout the weekend and that definitely stood out to me in early April. Moore made a run in March and they have plenty of talent coming back. Look for Lee and the Lions to be a threat yet again in Class 6A.
Percy Green Percy Green 6'4" | SF Del City | 2023 State OK – Guard – Del City (Oklahoma Impact)
Our last prospect is another one that I’ve written about a few times this offseason after watching him in person and that’s Del City guard Percy Green Percy Green 6'4" | SF Del City | 2023 State OK . The first time we saw Green while he was playing with the Oklahoma Impact, it was the first weekend in April and his team struggled. The next time I saw him, it was just a few weeks later and they were one of the best teams from Oklahoma at Prep Hoops LIVE in Kansas City. And the one consistent player throughout the month was Green. He’s another definition of a stock riser as we go further into the offseason. Green has done a fantastic job while playing with the Impact and has done well in a variety of ways. Whether it’s getting to the rim at will or knocking down jumpers, Green is definitely becoming more of a scoring threat on offense.
