This event allows a variety of teams associated with different shoe circuits and independents to battle each other out under one roof. Here are my standouts from Friday’s premiere games.
Joshua Ash (2024)|6-4 W| Calvary Christian Academy/Team Knight
The 6-4 wing out competing for Team Knight was one of the first players to stand out to me on day 1. Ash has impressive athleticism and has some bounce to him. On defense, he constantly plays active with both his hand and movement.
Ryan Eddy (2024)| 6’0 G| The Sagemont School/Team Knight
Ryan Eddy showcased that he can do a lot more than just shoot the ball on Friday. The Sagemont School guard has a well balanced shot allowing him to score on the offensive end which he is more known for. Eddy was constantly active on the defensive glass and made a statement that he is a guy that needs to be boxed out as well. He plays to his own tune and doesn’t get sped up with pesky defenders. During the game there were also instances of playmaking potential as Eddy displayed a no look pass.
Jaheim Gouldborne (2024)|G| Coconut Creek High School/T.S.E.
T.S.E. had a nice guard combination going for them this weekend. Jaheim Gouldborne is a quick and athletic guard and used that to help score on offense. His first step granted him driving lanes to the basket in which he could finish or knock down a pair of free throws.
Jaheem Smith (2024)| 5’8 PG| Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School/T.S.E.
Jaheem Smith was doing it all in his game versus Team Knight. His defensive instincts allowed him to pick up a quick steal and score during the game. Smith also has the ability to shoot while in motion as he knocked down a three doing so.
Jessiah Pierre Johnson (2023)| 6’4 G| Avante Garde Academy/Team Knight
When Jessiah Pierre Johnson wants to make a statement he can. The Team Knight 17U team had the opportunity to compete against a top EYBL program in Team CP3. EYBL players are known to be much bigger and stronger than other players, but the 6’4 guard could hang with the big boys with his own strength. He was excellent when scoring in contact and was also able to make space for a midrange shot due to his slow and controlled crossovers.
