Demond Laongoen was electric throughout this mornings contest in a win over Team OT. The 5’11” point guard from Madison East started off with two tough 3-pointers and three nice assists in transition early on. He had an impressive and-one euro-step finish midway through the half. Then immediately followed that up with a spin-move layup. 6’2” CG Trent Tucker (Madison East) had some nice early plays with a long-ball and had a block on the other end. He filled lanes well with two inside buckets off assists at the start. Laongoen’s quickness on defense was impressive too. He had a play where he sprinted down the the other end and striped a ball away. Then went coast-to-coast for a finish. Laongoen had 15 pts and 6 ast at halftime. 6’3” G Jack Jens (Beaver Dam, WI) kept Team OT in it, and gave them a brief lead. 3-pointer followed by some strong finishes in the paint. The two went back and forward for a while. But Laongoen came through with 30 seconds left and the game tied. A crossover mid-range jumper gave them a two-point lead. He followed this up with a forced jump-ball on the ither end that gave them possession. Gregory Smith picked up his board and put it in to secure a 60-56 win. Laongoen finished with 25 and Smith had 14.
Jamarion Bateman, Devin Brown Devin Brown 6'7" | PF Milwaukee Academy Of Science | 2025 State #196 Nation WI shine for Power 5 15U
Both Batemon and Brown (Milwaukee Science) were difference-makers from the start with 7 and 6 points in the opening minutes. 6’6” F Devin Brown Devin Brown 6'7" | PF Milwaukee Academy Of Science | 2025 State #196 Nation WI battled really hard out there for Power 5. Had a possession in the first half where he got three offensive boards. I counted at least seven for him. He also made some nice plays on the perimeter too. His best bucket came when he got an impressive and one, squeaking by a double team. Brown finished with 11 first half points and physically dominated the paint all game. 6’3” G Jamarion Batemon Jamarion Batemon 6'3" | CG Milwaukee Academy of Science | 2025 State #174 Nation WI has tremendous upside. He finished the first half with 13 points and three 3-pointers. Playing with a ton of confidence all day as he made four more 3-pointers in the 2nd half. Batemon finished with 22, wile Brown had a double-double in a 20-point win.
Gregoire Scores 27 in Comeback Win For 15U Blizzard
This was easily the most exciting game I watched. The Wisconsin Crusaders, led by Keegan Vankauwenberg (Kaukauna), got hot early and started the game on an 11-2 run. Vankauwenberg had a 3-ball, floater, and spin-move jumper to start things off. He also had a nice assist off a rebound in transition. The Blizzard bounced back to make it 13-11, but Vankauwenberg had a block and another 3-ball which made it difficult to lose the lead. Guard Drew Daoust Drew Daoust 6'1" | PG Southern Door | 2025 State WI (Southern Door) provided a spark off the bench. There was a period where he produced two tough baskets inside and some great rebounds. He’s got a lot of strength for his age and position. I also saw him hit a three that half. What Impressed me most about him was his footwork. But still, the Blizzard kept battling, as Pryce Gregoire (De Pere) finished with ten first-half points and two 3-pointers.
Carter Koch (Oconto) came alive for the Crusaders to extend the lead to double-digits early in the 2nd half. The 6’3″ Combo-Guard had a nice spin-move floater and a three to start. Then converted and and-one to make it a 9 point game. A baseline drive by Daoust made the lead 11. But this is when Gregoire and the Blizzard started to take over. He hit two 3-pointers and a steal leading to a fast break score. He also drove baseline for a basket and got another and-one to go down. He had 22 points as the Blizzard made the game even. Koch and Vankauwenberg each hit a pair of midrange shots and continued to trade baskets with Gregoire and the Blizzard. It was Landen Vanofferen (Kimberly) who hit a huge 3-pointer off a Gregoire assist in the final minute. Vanofferen then knocked down four clutch free throws to seal the win for the Blizzard. Gregoire led the way with 27 points. Vanofferen cane through big at the end and finished with 16. Koch led the Crusaders with 20 points and Vankauwenberg finished with 17.
