Cody Schmitz Cody Schmitz 6'4" | SG Gale Ettrick-Trempeleau | 2024 State WI — SF — PM UA Rise
This past high school season, Schmitz was able to put up some ridiculous scoring numbers. But because he played for a smaller school, he didn’t get the coverage that he probably deserved. But this AAU period, Schmitz is making sure that he makes a name for himself. The small forward is a very versatile scorer who is able to get buckets in many different ways. He can use his positional size to bully defenders and score inside, or he can step outside and drain threes.
Khalif Bettis Khalif Bettis 6'6" | SF Burnsville | 2023 State MN — SG — Minnesota Chill
In a close win for Minnesota Chill over a solid Illinois T-Wolves squad, Bettis was unstoppable. He finished with 24 points and could not be stopped. When he wanted to score, he scored. It was as simple as that. Bettis has a really smooth pull up jumper and has also shown an ability to slash to the rim and finish inside. If he keeps improving, Bettis is going to be a real problem at the college level.
Dupree Fletcher — PG — Power Five
He may not be the leading scorer for Power Five, but Fletcher is still a very important part of his team’s offense. The point guard does an outstanding job of getting his teammates involved. He is a very good ball handler and passer. I thought that Fletcher also did a good job of hunting for his own shot when appropriate. He was able to make some difficult mid-range shots in Power Five’s win on Sunday morning.
Amari McCottry Amari McCottry 6'5" | SF St. Thomas More | 2024 State #304 Nation WI — SF — Power Five
McCottry has so much potential. The Power Five small forward is an athletic, skilled prospect who is capable of taking over games. In transition is where McCottry is at his best. He is able to use his speed and ball handling skills to blow by defenders and finish at the cup. I was also really impressed with McCottry as a passer. He threw a perfect lob to a teammate in the second half on Sunday morning. Overall, McCottry’s game looks very good. He is going to be a problem for many years to come.
Jaquan Johnson Jaquan Johnson 5'10" | PG Pius XI | 2024 State WI — PG — Wisconsin Playground Club
He certainly isn’t the tallest player on the court, but he does have other physical gifts that he can use. Johnson is blazing fast in the open court and is also very strong. He can use this combination of speed and strength to blow by defenders and finish through contact at the rim. In the second half of Playground’s game on Sunday afternoon, Johnson was relentless when attacking the cup.
Levi Birkholz Levi Birkholz 5'2" | SG Lakeside Luthersn | 2023 State #290 Nation WI — CG — Wisconsin Crusaders
Defenders who matchup with Birkholz typically don’t end up doing very well. The Wisconsin Crusaders combo guard is so gifted as a pure scorer. He can knock down outside shots and score really well in the paint. When he slashes to the rim, Birkholz uses his combination of speed, athleticism, and strength to get tough layups to fall. I am not sure where Birkholz is going to end up, but I am certain that he will become an impact player at the college level.
Kenny Garth Kenny Garth 6'2" | CG Westosha Central | 2022 State WI — SG — World Hoops Elite
Garth wasted no time to get going on Sunday afternoon. In the opening minutes, Garth made two contested threes and threw down a big dunk in transition. The uncommitted 2022 shooting guard has a lot of skill on the offensive end. He is a true three level scorer who can also make plays for his teammates. If I were a college coach, I would definitely take a look at Garth.
