Larson recently picked up an offer from South Dakota State, and in watching him, it’s easy to see why the Jackrabbits became the first Division I school to pull the trigger. Since the last time I saw him live (the fall before his freshman year), he has really filled out his frame, and he uses his increased strength to absorb contact on his way to the rim. He didn’t have a good shooting game in the contest that I watched, but the form on his jumper is smooth and he gets into his shot quickly off the dribble. He’s a really good ball-handler and passer who is equally content getting his teammates open looks as he is creating a shot for himself.
PG Redek Born Redek Born 6'3" | PG Norwalk | 2024 State IA (Norwalk)
The younger brother of former Norwalk and current Northern Iowa standout Bowen Born, Redek is a 6-2 three-level scoring guard with a high IQ and the ability to create his own shot at a high level. He’s not as explosive or the type of quick-twitch athlete that Bowen was, but Redek has a bigger frame and he uses it effectively. He showed a willingness to take smaller defenders down onto the block and use solid footwork to score closer to the rim, as well as the ability to catch on the perimeter, put the ball on the floor, and get to the rim and finish through contact. He has a solid jumper and knows how to get to his spots.
PF Cade Courbat Cade Courbat 6'8" | PF Cedar Falls | 2024 State IA (Cedar Falls)
I continue to be extremely intrigued by Courbat and his potential. He’s an incredibly bouncy athlete who can provide highlight-reel plays above the rim on both ends of the floor. He provides a lot of versatility on the defensive end with his combination of size (6-8), length, athleticism, and IQ. He can defend on the perimeter or protect the paint. He also showed improved ball-handling, catching on the wing and putting the ball on the floor to explode to the rim for a powerful dunk. As he continues to round out the rest of his offensive game, he could turn himself into a highly coveted college prospect.
SG Cole Marsh Cole Marsh 6'6" | SG Waverly-Shell Rock | 2024 State IA (Waverly-Shell Rock)
Marsh is a new addition to the Martin Brothers roster this spring, coming off a strong sophomore season with the Go-Hawks. He’s a big-bodied 6-4 wing who can create his own shot. He uses his bigger, physical frame to absorb contact en route to the rim, and he has a smooth jumper with range well beyond the high school 3-point line.
SG Jackson Kutcher Jackson Kutcher 6'0" | SG Mount Vernon | 2024 State IA (Mount Vernon)
The younger brother of former Mount Vernon sharpshooter Keaton Kutcher, Jackson is also a knockdown shooter off the catch, armed with a lightning-quick release. He’s about 6-3 and has good length that he uses to make an impact on the defensive end, and that, paired with his ability to shoot the ball, will make him a prospect worth monitoring over the next two seasons.
SF Matthew Noll Matthew Noll 6'7" | PF Bishop Heelan | 2024 State IA (Heelan)
Noll had arguably the most impressive performance of the day, scoring 17 points in the first six minutes of their game against Omaha Elite. A 6-6 scoring wing brimming with confidence, he was on fire from behind the arc, showcasing his pure stroke that he can get off pretty much whenever he wants with his size. He has really improved his ball-handling and ability to create his own shot, which has opened up his entire offensive arsenal. He’s one of the highest upside players in the state’s 2024 class with his size, length, athleticism, and scoring ability.
